If nothing else, I don't think it's significantly better than any other name brand modules. . .

Oh yeah, I'm currently using two crucial 256 pc2100 dimms.

Well, I like Crucial because of the fact that they make excellent ram and also because they offer a lifetime warranty, which is awesome. Also, their customer service is the best I've ever encountered.

no ram will be "significantly" better than other ram.

If it runs, it's fine.

That being said, crucial has great support, free 2 day shipping, lifetime warranty, and no hassle RMA's.
That's what makes them a respected company.

Now that I think about it, I don't think I have ever seen any memory without a lifetime warranty.... Of course the RMA process through Crucial is much easier than most..

I don't think anyone has ever said they're significantly better than other "name brands". Mainly they're significantly better, more reliable, and easier to deal with than generic modules, and the company is easier to deal through than resellers. They may be more expensive than generic, but they are less likely to fail, and easier to replace if they do. They're also much cheaper than the big name "overclocker's friend" brands, while being just as reliable and high performing at stock speeds for those that don't need the very best memory for overclocking.

A "lifetime warranty" on a generic module that you can't find the manufacturer for is pretty useless.

Do you...often buy memory like this? Are you sure it's actually memory?
I've used generic, and some namebrand - I've only ever had a single stick of RAM go bad. It was a 32MB stick of PNY PC100. It kept giving BSOD's at the same address every time; ran a memory tester, Docmem, and it gave an error at the same address as the BSOD's gave - tossed that stick, because by the time it failed, it was worth about $5.

I have two sticks of PC133 stuff from TCWO that are both bad. (16X64) PC133 they have four chips per side (MT 48LC8M16A2) I am going to attempt to RMA them to TCWO. I've never had problems sending stuff back to TCWO, but we'll see how things go this time. I should have bought Crucial...

BTW, the one stick, when installed, the board won't POST, and the other stick, when installed in a board with integrated video (shared memory) you can't read the screen for all the artifacts and garbage. If you use the second stick in a board with non-integrated video, windows setup can't complete.

Crucial is not overrated in my books, just very good ram .The reason I buy Crucial ram is simple,as already stated lifetime warranty, good quality, high compatibility with most boards ,free delivery and excellent customer service.

When I had a problem with my PC few years back ,I thought it was the ram that was faulty (it actually was a T-bird that worked fine for the first 6 weeks then went faulty)so I contacted Crucial UK support and they couldn`t do enough to help me,in the end they tested the ram and sent it back to me free of charge, btw they also gave me the choice of having a new ram module or the old one back even though the old one passed their 24 hr stress test and was 100% fine .

I decided to keep the the old ram module which is still working fine right now in my old PC once I replaced the faulty CPU.The bottom line is any brand(even the best) of hardware can go or be faulty,it`s how that company supports the customer that`s important.

Never had a stick of crucial go bad on me in 4-5 years. I've had the motherboards memory controller go bad on me...but the ram was fine

It's worth the 10% extra to me to know that I'm getting great service and a quality product. I just ordered an extra 512 from there not even an hour ago.

they work good, not BETTER than any other brand names,. but as stated before... are available, and inexpensive. therefore they should receive praise. oh yeah... ever dealt with the company directly? they have like a 9.9 or something great on resellerratings. they are a very good company.
