I think Home Despot has surpassed Wal-Mart as my least favorite place to shop.

I head to Home Depot pretty regularly (owning a 100 year old home will do that). I've never been approached by a salesman in the store...just associates asking if I need help.

Pretty much this for me as well. Never had any issues other than a few inept employees once in a while. But it's not a terrible experience. Usually I know exactly what I'm looking for and I'll find it in the store I go to. Or else order online and pick up in store.

Costco OTH is getting bad IMO. Every time I go in there DirecTV people are coming up to me. Even if I'm just walking by the TVs and not stopping to check them out. On the way out, someone's asking me if I want to have my water tested for a purification system or ask if I need a new garage door or something. That's starting to get annoying.

I used to dislike them for the lack of help that was available, but now it seems that every aisle is capped with someone trying to give you a quote on solar, or whatever else they may accost you for. Worse than the damn Jehovah's Witnesses.

Interesting. I never have that experience at HD where I am. If anything, it seems like all the employees are desperate to help me with whatever project I happen to be working on.

Xenophobia is also the fear of strangers. Most of atot would seemingly prefer to live their entire lives in their basement interacting with the world solely through their computer.

I can not think of a Brick and Mortar store where I left thinking "that was a pleasurable experience, I want to come back here again"

I don't ignore them anymore, I simply look them in the eye and say "Fuck off". It just gets tiring going through the same thing anytime I want to go into Best Buy (or Sam's Club actually. They have those Direct TV people in there too).

DirecTV sales people are everywhere we go Best Buy, Fry's, CostCo, can't escape them

Actually, for the most part I agree with you. But it is the shitty way they go about it that makes me not care if I am being a dick. If it went like this, everything would be cool:

Cue scene : Me looking at the wall of TV's. I notice someone standing beside me.

Direct TV Man: "Excuse me, I am from Direct TV and was wondering if you would like to hear about our service. Maybe we can save you some money"

Me: "No thank you. I'm not interested today"

That is how I would respond.

However, this is how is actually works:

Direct TV Man : "I see you are looking at TVs today"
Me : "Yes I am"
Direct TV Man : "Well, let me tell you about some specials we have going on right now "
Me : "OK"
Direct TV Man (Starts going on about Direct TV)
Me : "Fuck Off"

I don't need to be suckered into a sales pitch. If they are straight with me, I am straight with them. If they want to dick around, I ain't got time for that.
Ah, yeah, that'd be annoying.

Typically the vendor salespeople are wearing shirts/nametags for their company though, not the store uniforms. Even if I _was_ looking at TV's, I wouldn't engage one of them.

A few months ago while at CostCo I approached a salesperson about their wireless plans. I assumed the uniformed employee worked for Wireless Advocates who is their third party vendor, it wasn't until a few minutes into the conversation when I discovered he's actually a traveling Sprint salesperson. It would have been nice if he was wearing Sprint logo shirt or disclosed it upfront.

Home depot near me is right across the street from Menards. Both stores have good service and keep their shelves and lumberyards well stocked.

depot is much better than lowes here. last time i was at lowes i asked where the floor pocket kits were, she looked at me and said something like "i don't know what that is, you will have to find it yourself" and walked away. . . and they don't carry different volume retrofit electrical boxes like HD.

at home depot i ended up with 3 different hd employees looking for it at the same time.

I guess many of you people truly suffer from a lack of social skills. I thought you were just rude on these forums, where you can hide behind the anonymity of an avatar. How hard is it to say 'no thank you' or 'not today' or 'I'm all set' to one of the sales people at the brick and mortar stores? You really have to curse them out? My biggest issue is trying to find help there, when I really want it.

In the future just as cashiers are being replaced by self-checkout machines, these sales people will be soon be replaced by drones, who will recognize you through facial recognition or government required RFID implanted under your skin. No biggie. I'll be bringing along my own drone who will be assigned to interface with them, using NFC technology. Hopefully my drone won't buy out the store.

HomeDepot sucks. It amazes me that a store so big can manage to not have what I need >50% of the time. I usually go to smaller stores. They usually have what I need, and the employees are more knowledgeable.

I never have problems there, one of my favourite stores to go in for hardware stuff. Admittedly I even prefer it over Canadian Tire. Though I try to go there too depending on what I need as I prefer to support a Canadian company.
