I think I fried my comp :(

So I was changing between my dvd burner and my cd-rom (changing the power and the other big cable) with the power on when I guess I angled the power the wrong way and it came into contact with the metal. I don't know how that's possible because the connections are embedded pretty deep in the plastic head. But I guess I did.

So it touched and my system just shut off. I unplugged the power cord to my computer and re-booted and I can only get to the screen that says "PLATINUM" (Which is my OCZ platinum ram) it is the first screen that always comes on. I can get into BIOS and when I hit DEL I can get into setup. In BIOS it says ""AMD 64 3500 detected" and "Memory detected" then it says "Detecting IDE settings" and just stalls on that.
What IDE things should I try unplugging? I have 2 HD's.

The lights and fans all work inside my computer (like on the motherboard).

So tell me, how bad did I screw my computer up and how the hell can I fix it?

you just learned a very important lesson....never, ever change cables, power or otherwise with the power on! always shut down and unplug the psu from the wall. i would unplug the hd's and see if it will give the message no system disc or such....if it wont give you that message about no hard drives attached to the system, my guess is you are looking at motherboard replacing time.

Nice handle allanon, try unplugging the optical device that you shorted, also if you have one try a different power supply. If neither work go to basic mb/vc/ram and 1 ide device at a time to see if any of them work. If not then probably power supply as allanon said, you will need to check the hardware's RMA policy.

Mobo would b e my guess as well but you do need to test first. My guess is you toasted the IDE port on the board. f you can isolate this as the problem you could always find a pci ide adapter. Allanon already stated this but it cant be said enough... Never make hardware changes with the power on. Its a danger to your system and to you as well.

I am now writing to you not from my parent's place where I just got back from dinner, but my home computer is working now!

AFter trying to reboot it and it staying stalled on the "Detecting IDE settings" I just said F-it and let it "detect" all it god damn wanted to, and went over to my parent's place. Came back, moved my mouse and my desktop slowly appeared from the dead!

LESSON LEARNED THE EASY WAY!

How can people be this careless? Why would you even attempt something like that? Stupidity at it's finest...

Upon further inspection my D: is GONZO!
At least my C: (which is my 10000rpm raptor!) is still working fine.

I would venture to say you toasted the IDE port as I stated above. I would also venure to say if you reboot it will go intot he detcting deal and take forever to come back up. This is because the mobo sees a rive attached but can not understand what it is. Just my guess though. If you have a sata drive as your hd then good deal. Mov your optical drives to the other ide port (most boards have two) and hope all is well.

learned that lesson not too long ago by accidentally setting an ide cable on the heatsinks of an xbox psu (the heatsinks are live for some reason) after formating a 200gig. fortunately it was my xbox and not my computer, and i was able to buy a $50 broken xbox of ebay that took 10mins to fix.

Took about 15 mins to boot up!

I have the K8n Neo2 platinum MB.
There is a 2nd place to plug in a smaller orange cable from my HD, and there is an extra slot (though different colored) to plug in the main plug into my MB.

That sound like a plan?

Just in case you haven't caught on here, IDE is not a hot-plug technology. Don't do this in the future.
