i think i got strep throat

so im gettin strep throat which totaly sucks. Anyone know some good ways to keep ur throat from hurting? ive tried iceream and popsickles but thats not workin very well. Ne better ideas would be appreciated.

tea with lemon or honey, umm cough drops, that stuff you can spray on your throat and make it numb.

It helps. I used to fight with my mom when I was little about doing that whenever I had a sore throat, but once she made me do it, I felt a lot better.

Salt water works. If you can find liquid Tylenol, go get some for the pain.

Strep sucks. I got it after scraping the ceiling of my home. We were moving in and the ceiling had that popcorn ceiling I hate. So my wife and I took down one bedroom that had it. The next morning I've got full blown strep. Wife had to finish up with the scraping and the rug pulling from upstairs. Rug was about 30 years old and the house we bought was a rental property.

I'll never rent again after seeing the crap they left behind.

try halls or some menthol based solution (vicks)...

cheap and helps a lil with pain. Chloroseptic for a slightly more reliable but expensive aid.

Last time I had strep I had to go to urgent care, I thought I was gonna die. My daughter brought home some highly contagious strep from school i think.

you really REALLY need to see a doc NOW. Get some antibiotics and take some motrin too. ask the doc about how much you should take.
nothing else will really help

That's what I use any time I get a sore throat. Try using an herbal tea containing more Vitamin C as well. I keep a stash of herbal tea/honey both at home and here at work just in case I ever develop a sore throat. Good luck

Go to the store and buy these losenges called "Sucrets" they are red little hard discs that will numb your throat completely when sucked on (or get the spray), take a cup of hot water and add some tablespoon of salt, and 4 crushed zinc pills, and two of the sucrets. Stir it all in until everything dissolves in the hot water then gurgle for 5 minutes then drink it.

I get extremely sore throats every winter (doctors always think it is strep, but the swab tests are always negative), so this is what I have to do to be able to even eat and also still be able to breathe in cold air when training. It lasts for about an hour.

Strep Throat blows, I've been there. Try soup, tea, and water ice. You may also want to go take some aspirin for the pain.

Yeah, if it's actual full-blown strep, you're gonna need antibiotics. I waited too long one time that I got it and my throat was so swollen it was almost completely shut by the time I got to the clinic.
So they gave me antibiotics and 800mg ibuprofen pills. That was real thoughtful.

Lola is right. If it's really strep you need to get on some penicillin so it doesn't progress into rheumatic fever.

Chloraseptic spray for the pain, ibufrofen to reduce swelling. You can suffer through it for at least a week or see a doctor for antibiotics which will probably be something like azithromycin (Z-Pak) or Avelox and feel at least 50% better within a day.

It doesn't always attack your heart, but its a good idea to get it check out.

Yes, if it develops into rheumatic fever it can attack your heart, joints, skin, kidneys or brain.

Nah, whiskey's good for whatever ails you. I recommend starting with bourbon, and if that doesn't do the trick, follow up with some scotch.

Yep you are right mosh, I wondered if it was an old tale, but:

Not treating strep throat or stopping the pills early runs the risk of heart damage. This same germ can cause rheumatic fever. This disease can affect the heart, joints, and brain. It can scar the heart valves. This can weaken the heart and leave it open to other infections throughout life. Strep throat can also lead to kidney, ear, or sinus infections.

I've always done the salt water approach...next time, I'm going to try the tea + honey.
