i think i nuked my router

i have the netgear rt314. today i turned off dhcp and changed the ip address of the router. now i cannot get into it. i changed the ip address from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.8, and now it wont work. i cant find a reset switch on the box, is there anything i can do?

simply assign ur client gateway ip to 192.168.0.8. And assign static individual IP to each client. Gotta give more information when "now it wont work" that's just too generic.

you can always use a serial cable to connect to the router and then upload the default rom.

It's ok it's a common mistake. All you have to do is change your PCs local IP info to correllate with your router's new network. Then you should be ok.

i appologize for giving insuffiencent info the first time. here is the deal

this is the setup i had WORKING:
Router IP 192.168.0.1
DHCP Active
Comp 1 IP (assigned by router) 192.168.0.2
Comp 2 IP (assigned by router) 192.168.0.3

NOT WORKING
Router IP 192.168.0.8 (i dont know if this is still the ip address because i cannot access it using this ip. it is the last ip address that i assigned to the router)

DHCP Unactive

Comp 1 IP (169.254.120.88) (subnet: 255.255.0.0) (gateway: not present under ipconfig)(not sure what is assigning the IP, if it is still the router, but it changes every time i reboot)
Comp 2 IP (169.254.170.182) (subnet: 255.255.0.0) (gateway: not displayed)(again, the ip changes every reboot)

now i know that the gateway was assigned by the router before i turned of dhcp. i also have both computers set to be assigned an ip address. neither the router or the comps are connected to the internet. any ideas how i can get into the router to change it back besides the serial cable? otherwise i will just go get a cable. let me know if this information is of any more help.

The IP that you are getting is a Microsoft automatically assigned one when a DHCP server can not be found. You need to manually configure the IP of one of your stations to 192.168.0.2 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Then reboot.

Then you should be able to access the router by its IP.

Change the IP to what you want (making sure its on the same subnet 192.168.0.xxx subnet mask 255.255.255.0 or you will lose connection again)

Depending on what kind of Operating system you have (Win95, Win98, Win2K, WinNT) the setting can be in a different place but most times you can just right click on Network Neighborhood or My Network Places and do a propeties on the TCP/IP settings and select Use the Following IP.
