I think its a virus

Any time I try to run any application I get the error message that acmbddeux.exe cannot be found and that that file is required to run any application. I can run IE and explorer. I was not able to run Norton Antivirus from the program menu or from my desktop icon but I was able to select the c drive and right click to scan for viruses bud Norton did not find anything. I'm pretty sure I have the most recent updates.

Normally I would run msconfig or select it through the programs menu and look through there. I bet something got put in there like run=(that exe file) but I can't get in there to check. Any advice?

you might be able to edit some of the *.sys in dos?

Run a full virus scan, then run the Windows file checker utility. Make sure when you do that you have your Windows CD. If you run across any missing or corrupt files when checking, you can restore from the CD. If that does not help, and especially in the case of a virus, you may want to backup your data, then do a clean install of windows.
