$471 is plenty expensive for me, but then again it's a 19". Being sick of my 17" Samsung 171v, thought I'd try this out.

Deal goes like this...

$645 -15% email coupon -10% stackable coupon -2% ebates = $471 at DELL SB

Also they have the Samsung 171v for $303 roughly using same coupons.

Here is a link to the new Planer model BTW. It just came out today.

The PX191
...but wow, what a price jump from the previous model. Plus no speakers on this one, then again Id rather not have speakers on it.

Wow the new model looks interesting. I wonder if the pixels are any smaller though... otherwise it would just be a cooler looking brighter brother, but not much more IMO. For me anyways I doubt I'd need the extra contrast ratio, I already turn it down all the way on the Samsung 171v I'm using right now lol (too bright for my eyes).

I think they just raised the contrast on it from like 400:1 to ....700:1 Plus it swivels a bit more now too and has a smaller bezel all around.

Looks like the PL191M includes a DVI input.

I think they are more or less the same, excep the 191M is an updated version of the 190M. The 191M has a newer bezel design and stand. A little sleeker overall.

If anyone has a 15% off code that they will not be using, I'd be greatful if they would PM it to me.

Thanks.

Also, does anyone have this monitor? How well does it work in games?

What do you guys think? Is this is a pretty good deal? Been looking for a 18" or 19" LCD display for quite some time.

Also, where would I find 15% off coupons? I'm on all these Dell mailing lists but I never get these coupon codes for some odd reason.

Thanks,
Ray

191 has USB hub.

This is an extremely good deal. Wish I had waited and saved myself $50.
What's Dell's return policy?

I noticed Dell Home & Home Office have a 10% off all monitors... since the other coupons are only good for SB, it may not be that advantageous, but just thought I would throw it out there.

Yes, it has USB and the PL190 doesn't. It has a 25 ms pixel response time so there will be some ghosting/smearing in games. While it's not extremely noticable, it is there.

Here's a thread from a forum member that had the Planar 19" and the Dell 19" side by side and his impressions of them both:

Link

I tried out the PL191 a couple of weeks ago and found it to be an outstanding display. Not a single dead pixel/sub-pixel.

Planar also has one of the best, if not the best warranty out there. With 2nd Day Air replacement (they pay for both directions) and they'll replace with only 3 dead sub-pixels.

I'd say you can't go wrong with it. I'm going to try out the PX191 in a week or two. I'll start a thread then (search for it) and let you know my impressioons of it. But for that price, and being a 19", the 190 is an outstanding value IMO.

Exactly - had to turn it down to lowest setting on my Planar LCD, especially at night. These LCD monitors are way too bright - my 15-in NEC is just like that, burns my eyes.

I just noticed that the PL190ML does not appear to come with a DVI cable, but the 191 does come with one. This info comes from Planar's web site and Dell's descriptions. If you have to buy a DVI cable, that would pretty well make up for the price difference between the two monitors.

Great point!

I stated earlier that the difference was the fact that the PL190 does not have a 2-port USB hub, but I didn't notice the PL190 NOT having a DVI cable shipped with it. Those two things alone make the PL191 a better value, IMO.

Timing is everything when purchasing computer hardware...especially from Dell.

Three weeks ago the PL191 was a hot deal on sale at Dell for $559 after a $30 rebate from Planar.

I bought one then but returned it thinking I was going back to a CRT. Now after being back on a CRT for a couple of weeks, I want my LCD back.

I'm not so worried about gaming and ghosting/smearing on a LCD. I do little to no gaming like I used to when I was younger and single. But I have some photo editing needs, so I've decided I'll just use my wife's system/CRT for that. Because while LCD's are sweet to look at and much easier on the eyes and have a lot of positives over a CRT, one thing they simply cannot do yet is reproduce "true" colors and shades like a CRT can.

So I'm dropping the extra $100 and going for the PX191. It has higher brightness/contrast specs., has the new pivot screen, and I dig the new all-around thinner bezel with no speakers on it. They are 1 watt pieces of junk that serve no purpose other than providing the standard Windows bells and beeps. At 1 watt, they WILL NOT provide any kind of sweet sound stereo that one would want to listen to for any length of time.
