what would I be scared of?
I have no idea. Criminals? Wild animal attacks? You tell me. I don't know what motivates you. Are you saying that guns are not a hobby/entertainment for you, because that was the other option.
Come on Jack...pay attention! We covered this in the first post.
FMJ is for target practice. Bullets are expensive, so you buy in bulk to save money.
I use FMJ for sighting in my guns prior to hunting. For plinking and target practice I tend to purchase CCI aluminum cased rounds.
I can only shoot brass at the range

So is the target practice motivated by amusement and entertainment? Or fear and vigilance?

A lot of people don't get that shooting in of itself can be fun...with no ulterior motive.
I shoot old weapons (Winchester 1897, Lee Enfield No 4 Mk 1, Garand, 1903A3 and so forth) for the sheer amusement of shooting them.

The beauty of freedom is that as long as they aren't harming you, nobody has to justify their actions to assholes.
It's motivated by me wanting to be more accurate.
Who said anything about justifying?
Heck, I'm just a curious non-participant. I'm pretty sure he knows he doesn't have to answer me without you butting in and pointing it out, too. He seems to know a few things about his freedoms.
I want to shoot a Garand badly. Also an Enfield. Matter of fact....PM me your address, I'm coming over.
Got access to both but I'm not interested in firing them again (yes, I'm old). Bad ass women shooting the Mosin in WW2....Its my stance of dominance. Nothing gets the neighbors attention on a Sunday morning like a Mosin Nagant M44.
I'm a loud mouth guy with guns. I am freedom!
For me it's mostly a hobby. I grew up with guns so they have always been a part of my life. I also believe in defending my family and myself. But mostly it's just fun to shoot.
I will never cease to be amazed how hard it is to get a bullet to go where you want it to. It's a lot like golf if you think about it. You will never be perfect but some people are damn good. Except with shooting, there are really loud bangs and you get to see fire.
Plus...who is going to save your butt when the zombies come? Guys like me...

Seem to have killed the person that needed saving too

Sure you are. Rather than have a real discussion you're trying to shape the argument. Your insinuation is that the only two reasons to own a firearm or for fun or because of fear, and the second is cause for ridicule from people like you, leaving only the first as an acceptable answer.
On an unrelated topic, have you stopped beating your wife?
I shaped it in the form of reality, yes. I can see why that's so insidious to you.
And I don't deride people for doing things out of a reaction to fear... it's a friggin' primal motivator that affects everyone's actions almost constantly. What I do find frustrating is that some people won't just cop to the reality that fear is their motivator and act like mature adults about it.
Rudeguy spelled it out plainly for himself: mostly entertainment and slightly fear. That lines up with most of the people I know who enjoy firearms.
As for my wife, she just fell down some stairs. You can ask her.
Being prepared =/= Fear. It could be driven by a rational desire to have proficiency in something that you many never need to exercise.
I find shooting to be relaxing and it provides excellent feedback in goals progression.
Yes, I also understand that what I use can be used to inflict damage to others but I practice because I'd like to be competent in my usage of it so as to minimize any collateral if I did have to employ it in a time is life situation.
I also would prefer to understand something instead of fearing something by not understanding, "We all fear what we do not understand."
