We don't know what's going on with her right now. For some reason, she is peeing in this one spot in my son's playroom. When she does go use the kitty litter, she lets her butt hang out the opening and pees halfway in the litter pan and halfway out causing a mess.

She's had a bladder infection before and had trouble controlling it but she was depressed and wasn't moving much then because she felt bad. She's not anything like that now. The only thing I can think of is either a) she's jealous of the attention my son receives or b) since we've gotten the new fence in our backyard she's be going out there and pees inside on the carpet to let us know we should have let her out.

Crazy cat. My wife is ready to send her to the animal shelter she's so ticked off at the cat.

Least she hasn't peed in the toaster. We had a cat who did that and we didn't realize it until we'd gone and made toast. Most god AWFUL smell in the world.

how old is your son?
how long have you had the cat?
I will assume the litter is spotless?
Perhaps her bladder infection is back but not as badly as before?
Have you changed litter brands?
Have you taken the cat to the vet?

She's five. We've had her since she was 6 weeks old.

We've got two litter boxes for her and her brother. They're changed once a week. That's been the pattern for her whole life. She's never done this before.

That's one thing I'm considering.

Nope

Have you taken the cat to the vet?
Going to after today's 'two peeings in one spot' episode.

You change the litter only once a week? That's pretty nasty....even if it has been the pattern all her life.

We had a problem with a cat peeing in a spot. IIRC some cats will pee in a spot for whatever reason and then kinda continue to use that spot since it now smells like pee and they associate as an appropriate place to go. Get some Nature's Miracle and clean the bloody outta that spot and any others. Spray some water at her if you catch her in the act. And...the litter really should be changed/scooped everyday. It's possible that she's fed up or something has changed to make her disgusted with the litter (perhaps that's why she does the 1/2-in-1/2-out thing).

I hope you can get this resolved. Don't give up on her yet!

start by changing the litter twice a day. continue by getting some enzyme cleaner for the carpet, which you can find at pet stores. it eats up the smell. clean the carpet every time she makes a mess. if she can smell her previous accident, she'd pretty likely to use the same place.

cats don't do that stuff unless they are sick or protesting about something. in your case, it could easily be a filthy cat box. how would you like to step around in your own week-old turds so you can pee? now how about your own turds PLUS someone else's turds? yeah. but seriously get the cat to the vet to be checked for a bladder infection.

regardless, i hope you get it sorted out. i know how infuriating it can be.

Yeah, I pee in a certain spot in my living room everytime my mom grounds me. That usually makes sure I get my way.

Pick up a different cat. Theres so many that are put to sleep because no one wants them. Survival of the fittest. If the cat pees all over, nuke em.

My cat loves to pee by the back door. He's a male, I think it's some sort of territorial thing. It really irks me, because I want to get new carpet, but I don't want the damn cat to ruin it. I haven't been successful in getting him to stop, so far I've tried

a) saying "Cut that out" as he does it
b) telling him later, "I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't pee outside of the litter box"
c) attacking him with a stick as he pees by the back door
d) slathering him with butter

....

ok, so that last one was just for fun.

I'd piss all over if my owner was slathering me with butter.
Probably find a way to get a hold of the cops too with my owner walking around saying, "It puts the butter on."

This is a perfect exmple of why I won't own an animal that goes to the bathroom in my house....take it outside. When I did have cats they were all trained to go to the back door and outside for their business.
