I was just looking at the Indiatimes .com site, and the story there is the Taliban is turning the decesion to give up Osama over to the clerics of Afghanistan, the Ulema.

This sounds like a stall, and does not stop the action against the Taliban,as the President just stated in his news breifing moments ago.

Our resolve to go after ALL terrorists organizations and their supporters should be and is our mission statement.

Wishful thinking, but I do not ever see this happening. The taliban are very hard core militant muslim, they would be the laughing stock of all thier neighbors and all the other countried like Iraq if they bowed to the U.S.

I for one would like to see the taliban removed from power completely.

ha ha

They say they've 'arrested' him.. But only God knows what they're really doing.. Osama's communication is still very much active with all his forces.. so much for being 'arrested' eh?

I most certainly hope they don't turn him over. If they do then it will make it that much harder to invade Afghanistan to get his henchmen. I want all of them dead, not just Osama.

No chance.

Reuters reported that Afghanistan's ruling Taliban has
deployed a force of between 20,000 and 25,000 troops
on its border with Pakistan, near the Khyber Pass, citing
Pakistani army sources. Pakistan has also reinforced its
troops along its 870 mile border with Afghanistan. 1425

Even if they decided they wanted to turn Bin Laden over could they really do it? I''m pretty sure he's not going to just allow himself to be handed over to a country he despises

What are they going to do with him? Put him on trial? While he sits in Club Fed, the US is going to get bombed to hell by all his terrorist buddies.

TALIBAN CHIEF LEAVES DECISION TO ULEMA

don't shoot the messenger.

It is conceivable that this is a delaying tactic by the Taliban to allow them to amass there border troops and machinery and put the monkey on the back of the clerics if the they need to turn over Osama. If they think that would appease the US and world opinion, that would be a viable tactic. It would conceivably go a long way to shore up support of their own people.

I just think the chickens are already out of the chicken coop. Lets eat chicken!

Afghanistan?s hard-line Taliban leader will let a grand council of Islamic clerics decide whether to hand over suspected terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden to the United States, the Taliban-run radio said Monday.

They dont' just want Osama Bin Laden, they want the entire terrorist group in Afghanistan. You think turning over Bin Laden would accomplish anything? He'll be held in custody, and while in custody, his terrorist group would be bombing and attack in his name.

That's true, there are many heads need to be cut off, not just bin Laden. Bin Laden is one of their financial and spiritual leader, but he isn't the only one. There are the planners and the trainers that we should take care of.

Howdy,
Dunno. Negotiation is the magic word. Maybe the USA and NATO will make Taliban an offer it cannot refuse.

Most of the proof against bin laden isn't all that concrete, there's lots of signs which point in his direction, but hardly anything is definitive proof, so he should most likely be declared innocent, because there's a little line in the law which sais: you're innocent until proven guilty, and i doubt he's stupid enough to leave evidence behind.

ofcourse, with the reputation the US (and other) courts have lately, where it turns out that many people on deathrow are innocent after their case gets reopened, i wouldn't be surprised if a conviction would come just to satify the lust for blood.

murder or manslaughter won't be provable, making a gang probably would, but how many months in jail would that be?

Aelus do you work for the FBI? You seem to have a considerable amount of knowledge of the evidence they have collected so far. I don't think we have even seen the tip of the iceberg of evidence they have gathered so far so your statement has no credibility.

How do you know he doesn't work for the FBI? Unless you know that, then you can't say his statement has no credibility. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, though.

NesuD, sure there will be traces back to him, but it seems awfully tough to prove that he gave the orders to hijack those planes, and send them down, i really wouldn't like to have to investigate that case. The lack of definate proof has been mentioned several times in the news (belgian public telly), and i'd rather trust them, than the american stations on this subject.

i'm just guessing ofcourse, but i don't think i'm wrong.

Oh and, the taliban has said they'll turn him over if there's 100% proof evidence, so it would be all over the US television if the us gov showed them proof, and they refused.
