A girl in my women's studies class asked if I was good with computers. She says she keeps getting popups, she can't get on the internet and that even word processing is a chore. She clearly needs to be reformatted. I told her it would take two and a half hours, and that even though I have been contracted out for in excess of 100$ an hour, I'd do the whole thing for her for 50$.
I'm a little tight on cash this month and 50$ would... sadly... really help me out.
She balked that "thats a lot of money and shed have to ask her dad first"
fvck her. fvck them. they don't need our help.
when i was in uni in canada i'd charge $10/hour or the equivalent in beer (seriously!)
i ended up making a lot more than that too because they ppl see that its actual work being done and its so cheap that they feel bad and are so grateful they'll tip generously! i'd also always say if i cant fix it then its free....
ex: went to fix this girls computer, essentially i backed up her stuff, cleaned out case (tons of dust) and format. whole process took just under 2 hours. so i said well thats almost 2 hours, 10 bucks an hour so,,uhhhh and she was like ok and left and came back with 40 bucks and was like thanks so much
ex2: went to fix this girls computer and her roomates too, just a matter of running antivirus and antispyware a couple times to clean it out and some minor tweaking. took an hour and a half... same situation and they paid me 45 bucks + a 12-pack of beer... lol awesome eh?!
