Anyone know the quickest and easiest way to backup a massive 20GB folder to CD-R?

i probably have 30gb mp3s alone i did it the hard way.. burn burn burn.. at 8x i now have 24x so its like nothing now. 99bux at frys still i think, liteon 24x. i've probaby eaten through 10 spindles heh

<< I generally only download device drivers and program updates... >>

I wanted to delete a file that was called Download.ace (compressed file). Suddenly, without me noticing, the explorer refreshed and selected my default directory Downloads... I thought that I was erasing the file. I still tryed to shutdown the computer but it was to late. When I booted to Windows there was nothing there....

Sorry, these are video projects that I've encoded...

I've got a bunch of 2+GB files that cannot fit on a single CD-R, thus I need something that does a "backup" across dozens of CD-R disks...

<< And instead of unerase, how about just putting in an "Undo" feature...

Say have all files not actually delete for 24 hours or something...

With the size of hard drives today, why not?

How about this... Have a 10% size partition on the back of your drive, have everything you delete actually copied there and deleted in order of oldest first...

Just ideas on how Windows could better handle deleted files...

Recycle Bin sucks... It is slow and umm...

Well, ok...

But I turned off the Recycle Bin back in Windows 95 and haven't used it since...

I just turned it on, you have a point...

If the stuff was that important to you why not invest $100 in a cd burner or tape drive. Get the program file scavenger, it works wonders.

I feel sorry for you, man, I hate it when I delete something I was trying to keep. I did that once - forgot to move a directory over to my spare drive before formatting and reinstalling windows...lost quite a few movie files in that incident. I backed up my mp3 folder early in the year - took me a week to organize it then 34 cd-rs to backup. Wish I had a tape drive at that point. Since then I need to back up again, since I've downloaded probably another 10 gigs....plus about 30 divx movies....keep plowing through spindles of cd-rs

I have a question - what is the best way to back up a divx movie that is over 700 megs onto a cdr disc without re-encoding it?

well look at it this way, your lucky your hd didn't completely fail. since you have no backup that would have been disasterous, always backup anything you find important, documents, email, favorites lists etc.

jehh can't you just split video files normally? or use a program like rar to split it.. just set compression to nothing if your comp is slow i guess. i'm sure theres burner softawre that spans discs since some can backup harddrives. i've just had no experience using em

It always takes an incident like this to make you do backups. I myself have deleted stuff I did not want to, but, you kick yourself a few hundread times and move on. Backups will now be a part of your life.

My current routine is to copy important files to another physical drive. If it's very important I'll copy it to another PC on my network. Then when I have enough files I burn a CD.

Exactly...

I had a drive fail on me with lots of files I needed, cost me about a week of work...

Since then, I don't ever keep anything important unprotected....

then again raid (i forgot which mode, but the one where you have two drives mirroring each other)is probably more convenient if you can afford it. saves time too hd prices are pretty sweet now.

and yea i lost my oldest drive, the 20gb a month ago. that really sucked, there was some stuff i hadn't gotten around to backing up.. ussually because i didn't have a cd full of a certain thing yet. only good part is western digital sent me a 30gb and far faster replacement
