I really need help with this one - my P3V4x worked great when I upgraded it, then a few weeks later, I changed drivers on my turtle beach quadzilla. Since then, the machine hangs up during win98se startup. I eventually formatted & reinstalled (I still had M/B crap from my previous BX M/B in Device Manager) and discovered (after a few tries) that as soon as I install drivers for my Leadtek GeForce 256 DDR, then windows starts hanging. Safe mode ok, and as long as I keep Std PCI VGA adapter installed, everything on my system works solid.
Different drivers (versions, reference, leadtek) don't affect lockups. New BIOS no help (M/B nor GeForce) Tried newest 4-in-1 drivers, newest AGP driver from VIA. No change. Also installed AGP GART in std ,turbo modes. Tried setting 2x in bios, and tried turning fastwrites off. No good.
My system is:
300W power supply.
P3 933 @ 7x133 (not OC'd)
256 MB PC133 DIMM
ASUS P3V4X M/B,bios 1003 (1005 was actually worse)
Leadtek Winfast GeForce 256 DDR (latest bios, any drivers)
Turtle Beach Montego2 (latest drivers)[slot 5]
NetGear 10/100 PCI [slot 4]
56kbps PCI modem [slot 3]
Canopus Voodoo2.[slot 2]
Anyone seen this before? Any thoughts?
Tried swapping in a TNT2, still hung when installed drivers.
I'm going crazy over this. Asus support is nonexistant, Leadtek screwed me up even more, NVidia tells me to go to Leadtek, VIA I'm still waiting on...
right now I'm thinking either I've got a bad M/B or VIA and Nvidia don't get along - but I've seen plenty of via-nvidia systems running. Also, if the system is solid with PCI VGA drivers, can the M/B still be bad?
argh!
