I want a 10 x 133 tbird--would 1 gig 200 work for me?

I want a stable cpu for my Epox and figure the 133mz fsb would be best at 10 x multiplier. My thought is rather than getting a 266 1.33 tbird, get a 200 1.0 tbird(basically same bird?) and bump that to 133 on the bios and leave the multiplier alone. I want normal pci/agp specs, or close, for my system stability. Is this a valid train of thought and am I missing anything?

That would depend on the core, week, how much voltage if it would do 133fsb - and of course cooling which I don't think that superorb is gonna cut it. Not all chips are created equal. Try unlocking the L1 bridges and test the multiplier as well. It's a cut and try process - Many components will run out of spec you'll have to do some homework my Adapted 2940U2W will run like a champ @ 41mhz, but a similar Tekram won't.

It will be tough to get a 1 Ghz chip to post at 1.33 GHz. Trust me, I tried and the highest I got to with my 1GHz was 1.26 - and it crashed all the time. I'd reccomend getting a 1.1 or a 1.2 - the prices are very good right now.

A 1.2 chip runs at 9x133. You can easily get 10x133 from it.

That's not true... A lot of the 1GHz can do past 1.3GHz. Its called the AXIA stepping code chip. You could probably take that bird past 133 if you watned. My 1.2GHz "C" Tbird made it up to 1554 (stable), and 1584 (unstable).

Oops forgot to add...
If you check out the Overclockers.com CPU database, you'll see that the average speed for an overclocked T-bird 1GHz is 1329 MHz. Pretty darn close to 1330MHz

Good stuff.

I've found with my duron that 160 was stable for quite a while then the temps went up, ambient and cpu, so that I'm getting more file corruptions. I have played a bit with manual mem settings on my crucial 2100 too but need to have stability or no one will use the computer, they'll just stay on the Aopen BX with the C2 that's solid as a rock.

I've checked compuwiz's site and he offers a pretty small price difference between stock 1 gig and overclocked to 1.33 so that tells me that there's a good success rate. I think my days of tweaking the last mz out of a cpu before the crash are over as I'm tired of reinstalling and putting the pieces back together. It's just too cheap to buy a fast amd. I also have a scsi burner coming with a tekram card that I'll probably put on this machine to lure the kids over.

I also have the GW fdp with an 80mm fan on my duron again. The temps for the superorb(their clip is just too tough to take off and put on) & this GW were no different so I'm thinking of going with a GW WBK-38 and putting a few dabs of silicone on the fan as a shock absorber. Not as much choice in fans up here in Canada as you have and they tend to be more expensive.

If anyone is recommending a good, fairly quiet fan with a nice clip I'd be interested in hearing about it.

i would recommend getting a 1.2 266mhz if you want to run "stable" at 1.33

i would aslo recommend something like 9x148 or 9.5x140 to get 1333mhz

i dont want to run far off the pci 1/4 so 140 would be tops for fsb and I'd rather adjust the multiplier to keep my cards in spec

the stability I'm referring to is for my pci cards

Don't know...the 1.0's that ppl have been getting recently haven't been doing as well in the weeks past. Depends on what stepping you get and what week. Why not buy a 1.33 and go even higher...they're not that much @ newegg.com. And plus i think newegg has AYHJA steppings on their 1.33 chips...and they are one of the better OCers other than the AXIA Y...which are even harder to find.

Unfortunately, Newegg will only ship to USA physical addresses as I keep a post office box over the border in NY state as well as my home address in Canada and I have pleaded with them.
You're right, amd cpu's sure are cheap and I shouldn't be trying to power my mercedes with a little 4 cylinder. Up here I can get a 1.33 with wbk-38 & a tube of AS shipped to my door for about 205usd. They'll be even cheaper in august when I do it.

My celeron 400 I bought 2 1/2 years ago cost me 260usd + tax so I shouldn't begrudge a bit for the heart of my system.
