Actually, I think it's a hand-size issue. The 92 grip has a very large diameter, and I know that some people have a hard time manipulating the gun and controlling trigger pulls, etc.

You know what they say about guys with big hands, right?

Apparently they were having issues with the decocking lever dropping out of the 'fire' position. I do know that my friend was not impressed with them.

If I'm going to carry a gun that large, I want bigger bullets anyway.

Not to derail the thread, but im looking for recommendations on a pistol that I can CCW at my ankle under a pair of jeans. Something small, but still powerful. 380 maybe?

Glocks have three safeties, but not a typical external safety.

Honestly, there's nothing better than a Sig. I would recommend the P226.

Not the easiest to conceal..

I have a CZ 75B and it's a great firearm. My next one will probably be the H&K P30.

Definitely go to a range and try out the guns that you are interested in. Also, take a class on firearm safety if you are new to shooting.

Keltec P3AT or Bersa Thunder. Both pretty inexpensive. The bersa definitely gets great reviews.

try out a CZ P-01. everyone who has one says they fit your hand like a glove, and I agree (i own one also).

I would like to have a P-01. I would consider trading my CZ-75b Tactical for one.

I personally dislike the awkward grip of the Glock. It doesn't fit my hand or point naturally. My current pistol is a Ruger P95DC; not the greatest grip, but points better (for me) than the Glock, and is unbelievably solid and reliable. I admit to a pro-Ruger bias; I love my 4" stainless Security Six and consider it one of the very finest revolver designs.

If I were to purchase another (non-Ruger) pistol, I would have to pick between the S&W M&P and the Beretta PX4 Storm. Both have a highly ergonomic grip, adjustable for hand size, and (again, for me) point very naturally.

For a compact concealable, I second the Bersa Thunder. My wife has one (.380), and I have been well impressed with the design and execution.

if you indeed go shooting like you say, try out your friends and other 9mm the range rents.

Glock 27?

Kel-Tec P3AT?

Funny. I have a P3AT too. Not a great gun, not a bad gun. I had to do a fluff'n'buff to make it more enjoyable. Even with .380 the recoil is stout. My first time out with it, I fired 100 rounds and my trigger finger ended up bleeding along the whole right side of the nail from the frames impact. Also needs good ammo, but that wouldn't be an issue for a carry item.

But, its very small and at 5 yards can be shot accurately. For the price, I give it a solid 'B'

ask yourself if you are ever going to carry it

go to the range and rent whatever you are thinking about

as much as i don't like the grip on glocks, look at that and it's obvious competitor the springfield XD.

i own a sig pro and i like it alot.
The ruger SR9 seems to be getting lots of good reviews.

Also, don't forget the mob's gun of choice was .22 for a long time. For self defense it's not as powerful as a .40 or .38 but don't be fooled a .22 can definately kill a person especially since it is so accurate.

9 times out of 10 shooting someone with a .22 is just going to piss them off.
Don't make a decision based on what people online say. Go to a range that rents guns and fire the ones you are interested in. To me, the Glock's grip angle is terrible and just doesn't seem to be a natural position to shoot, but others say it helps for quicker follow up shots.
It may help the person that has never fired a gun before, but I just never liked Glocks.

I personally am not a big fan of 9mm. I prefer .40SW and .45ACP. That being said, I carry a Springfield 1911 while at work and on the weekends I carry a Springfield XD .40 Service.

And if the cost of ammo is a concern, then this isn't the thing to get into since ammo is only going to go up. If you have an Academy sports in your area, they are the best price wise for target ammo. I love the Monarch stuff. Never have had a problem. I put it on par with WWB.

9/10 shooting someone with a .45 will just piss them off...

Handgun cartridges aren't great when it comes down to stopping someone. A .22LR can be just as effective as a .45, shot placement is king, not caliber.
You show me someone that has great shot placement in a fire fight. When reality comes knocking, the bigger the hole you can make in someone the better. You also need to account for penetration. A .22 is not going to penetrate clothing and flesh and bone.

I'm not saying a .22LR is the same a .45, just that in handgun calibers, they are all poor at stopping a threat unless you hit the CNS.

Even a shot to the heart with a .45 isn't going to stop someone who is determined to fight for the last 30 seconds of their life. A shot to the brain or other CNS spot will end the fight immediately.

FWIW a .22LR will go through 6 layers of clothing and a turkey at 300 yards. Penetration is no problem.

I bet that turkey was pretty pissed when you started putting clothing on it.

Proof or shens. I'd like to see someone make a shot with a .22LR at 300 yards, as there is a 10-11 inch drop at 150 yards. Plus, I want to see a turkey with 6 layers of clothing.

Rinky do

200+ yards aren't too bad with a semi-auto. Especially when you are shooting down into a sand pit and can just walk the rounds on target

I would never choose a .22LR for self defense over a handgun (well at close range anyway). But a .22LR is better than nothing, and plenty powerful enough to get to the important parts that need to be hit.

I prefer capacity over caliber though. Bad guys rarely come in ones.

Wow, great link. I'll have to use that later whenever we have SHTF discussions and people start making fun of how I would consider a .22lr rifle with a couple bricks would be very sufficient.

EDIT: People especially made fun of me during hte zombie discussions.
