On the theft side, if someone wants to steal my 50+lb 4U server, hidden in a closet, best of luck to them being able to walk away without looking suspicious carrying something that big, oh and that is the backup so let's not forget the main PC also weighing in well north of 50lbs. On the fire side agreed, but that's why sticking a server somewhere at least away from the main PC's (attic, closet, garage) usually works OK since you then need a fire to reach that area of the home. Still, for a home user, there is little that you can do against theft and fire. Theft you can probably deter slightly with locks because you increase the on-site time and therefore risk a thief would have to incur to remove that obstacle.
