i want to study software engineer

Im Johnson, i ve decided to choose a new career for myself and i ve being wondering how and where to start. I need to know what are the things for know before going into this lovable career, how many month do i need cus some centre are giving me 2,3 and 6 months to study, would that be enough for me to catchup? What re the things to know before going into this great career. Pls your professional ideas is highly needed.

It depends on what you expect to do, and what you think "software engineering" is. As a discipline, it can be pretty serious, and requires a four-year degree:

On the other hand, depending on the local laws some people can call themselves software engineers after having picked up one of those "Teach Yourself Programming in 21 days" books.

In the US, engineer has a clear legal definition. If you can't put a stamp on something, you're not an engineer. It's like calling yourself a medical doctor or a lawyer, and you can get in serious trouble for claiming to be an engineer when you're not.


Where to start? Google for free online "computer science" classes. Stanford has a few. I think MIT and Harvard also put a lot of free stuff on the internet. You can basically get an entire 4 year university education online for free, but you won't get any certifications.

It'll depend a bit on the state, IIRC, some are much more lax than others. Here in Canada things are pretty strict though, and generally more uniform across the provinces.
