I wanted a PS4 and now i've been talked into the Xbone...

Wow...who would have thought that shopping for a next gen console was so annoying.

First I got my best buddy and my brother who bought a PS4 and tried to convince me to buy one too so we could play online...but just realised they never play online with each other but sometimes they play Towerfall Ascension at one's house, which for me sounds a bit silly even though the game is fun for short sessions.

Then I talked to the brother of a good friend who have a Xbone and plays a lot of Destiny and will buy Elder Scrolls Online and wanted me to join in the fun...then I checked the Xbone and there's an awesome deal on a Console+1 year XBL + Halo Master Chief Collection.

Both consoles have exclusives that I like...
One can play stuff from your PC
Graphically I won't see any difference on my 720p TV or on my 27" 1080p monitor (which is where it might permanently be plugged to leave the upstairs TV available).

Decisions, decisions...

It's always more fun playing with friends so in your case it definitely makes sense to get an Xbone.

The XB1 is a decent system once you get past it's woefully outdated GPU. Both consoles are six and half a dozen of each other in the real world.

Did they ever get around to fixing the broken multiplayer in the Master Chief Collection? Last I heard, it was still buggy as all hell.

But I just don't know how long i'll be able to play on my PC monitor before going mad...and don't want to end up having to buy a TV just for that either.

But looks like the Xbone is the one to get, especially with the deal going on right now.

Well, bought the Xbone Master Chief Edition (350CAD) +12 months XBL Gold (15CAD off when you bought a console) + Destiny + Destiny Season Pass.

I thought the controller came with the rechargeable kit, not AA batteries lol. Thanks M$, will have to buy one tomorrow.

I have to say, easiest setup on a console so far.

Now i'm just waiting on all those downloads to finish and i'm gonna start playing some Destiny.

There is something to be said for buying eneloop AA batteries and a good charger. They'll last a long time, are cheap to replace and are pretty simple to use.

This. I prefer rechargeable AA's over the proprietary battery packs they sell for XB1 and 360 controllers. I wish PS3/PS4 used AA's because the batteries in my PS3 controllers barely hold a charge and AFAIK they aren't user replaceable.

I keep a stockpile of a couple dozen AA eneloops for my XB controllers, remotes, DSLR, flash units, headlamps, etc. and it's way better than juggling a bunch of proprietary batteries for each device. With standard AA battery sizes, I just need to keep one set of charged AA batteries on hand for emergencies if something runs out of juice. If every device had a proprietary battery, I'd need an extra set of EVERY kind of battery to have backups for all my devices.

I don't care either way personally. I have eneloops for my XB1 controllers and a charge dock for my PS4 controllers.

Or just get a set of Eneloops and a LaCrosse charger which will charge faster; cheap chargers also charge in pairs, better ones can charge a single AA battery at a time. Not an issue if you only use them in pairs, but useful if you have things that use an odd number of batteries.

But yes, that set would work.

Same thing except I have the Sanyo ones. I think Panasonic took mover the eneloop line. I use the charger it comes with but I also have a few other ones from other sets I put to use if needed.

I've found rechargeable AAs, if maintained right, last more than a couple years.

That's the thing: Maintenance. To me personally it's a huge hassle. Make sure they are properly charged and discharged. Make sure they are kept topped up. There's nothing better IMHO than when your battery dies to reach into a bundle of 48 of them that are ready to go. No work, no hassle.

I don't think you're doing the economics correctly.

Amazon Canada sells an 8 pack of regular eneloops for ~38 CAD. They sell the Xbox One Play and Charge kit for ~29 CAD.

Thing is, with the eneloops, you're getting FOUR sets of batteries for your Xbox One controller (four sets of two batteries). With the Play and Charge kit, you are getting ONE. Really, to be equivalent, you'd have to buy four play and charge kits, which would be about 120 CAD.

Plus the eneloops are more versatile (they work with your other stuff) and have bigger capacity (Play and Charge kit is only 1400 mah).

Also, maintenance is minimal and I'm not even sure the maintenance required of eneloops is any different than what you'd have to do with the play and charge kit. Never had a problem with a set of eneloops not holding charge, even sitting on a shelf for months. I've had eneloops for ~5 years and all of them still hold charge just fine. Most I do is once a year maybe have them go through charge/discharge cycles in a la crosse charger, which is approximately 15 seconds of work every year.
