Damn, sucks dude. This sucks especially since, after having met ya on at least a couple of occasions, I can attach a face and person to this story.

Also sucks that you can't avoid this sort of crime anywhere really. There's too many young hooligans running around thinking they have nothing better to do than inflict harm on others and their property. *sigh* There's such a lack of respect for others and for authority in this country, it bothers me to wit's end... but that's another discussion.

I am always aware of what's going on around me when walking to the car (growing up and spending lots of time in some of the toughest areas of L.A., you have to) and it sounded like you were as well. That fvcker was just too silent, quick, and deadly. Just keep your chin up and thank goodness this asshole didn't have a weapon. Cars are replaceable. The few stabs or shot or two he would've fired to make sure you wouldn't cause him trouble would be far more life-changing... or possibly even life-ending. Hope they recover your ride, but regardless, at the very least you still have your life, your loved ones, and (for the most part *fingers crossed*) your health and other belongings. Good to hear you have the car fully covered by ins. just in case.

I'll be sending you some good vibes and keeping an eye out for your ride even though I'm about 35-40 miles <---- thataway.

Hope the bad karma that waste of space has accumulated fells him before he can further harm others/society. :|

This should be a lesson to everyone. You should always scan the area whenever you are leaving or returning to your vehicle. Being aware of your surroundings is your best defense against such idiots. If you feel uncomfortable you should return to the store and wait a while. The criminals prey on your being clueless and then confused.

You are not allowed to carry concealed weapons in CA are you?

well, i grew up here, it used to be a safe small town but that has obviously changed.

CA it is moderately difficult to get CWL and my employer has policies against it. If i did have a gun, the only time i could safely use it was when the attacker was already in the car, if i had shot him at that point, i'm not sure it would be legally justified.

If you point a gun at a loser like this they will simply run. You do not have to shoot anyone but if the guy is beating on you and you shoot him then you are justified. Luckily Texas just passed the law a few weeks ago where the losers can no longer sue you for shooting them when they attack you. My friend just chased two black guys off a couple of weeks ago when they approached his broken truck at 3 am. They were actually pulling on the door handles trying to get in but he chased them off with his pistol. You can expect this behavior to continue to rise especailly with all the illegals that keep flooding our country.

seem to me CA has pretty bad in terms of personal crime, someone tried to stab my cousin for his bicycle like two years ago. The police obviously never catch these people, so they probably do it a dozen times before they are caught, if ever.

the guy who attacked me was hispanic, but did not have an accent. He just some thug looking kid, it is really a shame he ran away before i could hit him back.
Not to delve into the politics of a complicated issue, but among Latinos, in my vast experience, I've noticed more of these problem-causing youth are Americans, that is, born here, than those who have immigrated here (legally or illegally). Perhaps those from Mexico or parts south have a greater appreciation for the opportunities presented to them here after growing up dirt-poor and working their asses off helping their parents & siblings simply survive.

<--- half Central American, but American-born and proud of both sides of my heritage, so not prejudiced in any way. Just my observation and quick $.02.

Sorry for side-tracking thread.

thanks yeah it's beeen a while. But the guy did get me, i had just walked out of the juice store, yes ideally i should be more aware, but i even asked the police officer is this sort of attack common now and he is like no, it is extremely rare. Lucky me.

too much "thug" culture in the states, I am casually considering leaving the country, pop society here does not respect regular citizens who work, go to school, otherwise generally honest and law abiding. I've been considering this on and off, but this is kind another big event to add to the stack.

Sorry to go a bit offtopic, but I thought lojack'd cars could be found within a few minutes to an hour? I have it installed in my Civic, and I was told recovery time was almost instant...

Obviously he got the lowjack for the SECOND car and is talking about his original car being stolen and found a week later stripped.

How is your nose?

stuffy, i can feel stuff moving around as the swelling reduces, the doctor mentioned it is broken pretty bad and in multiple places. Like i say, i will need surgery to completely straighten it, but it is not on like the other side of my face. Also my eye is puffed up.

The main thing was the confusion, it is not often someone walks up behind you and throws punches at you. The guy was not even bigger than me, I am 6 ft, 170 lbs. Had it been heads up it would have been an even fight. Like I said, i got back up to hit him back, but he grabbed my keys and jumped in my car. When I went for the door to try to pull him out, he locked the door. The whole thing was so cowardly.

do you know how he broke your nose? meaning was it a flush punch or something?

 to AT for looking on the bright side.

had I been in the situation I would probably be obsessed with getting back at this bastard, considering how pissed off i get at him by just reading about it on the other side of the country

Sorry to hear that, but it's good you're okay (besides the nose). I know you did some work on your car and you've given advice to me on gen7 before. Hope things turn out for the best.

I know it must be really hard not to, but don't lose your faith in society based on this lowly piece of ******. Hopefully one day he will get shot and his parents will die on the way to the hospital in a 1 car accident.

I opened up my car, turn my head and suddenly I see the same guy throwing punches at me in the face while screaming "f*ck u f*ck u", he had followed me real quick. At first I was like what the hell, does he have me mistaken for someone and then he knocked me down from the punches. Then I finally understood it was serious, I got back up to fight back but then he grabbed my keys, jumped in the car and locked it. He drove off after that.

I walked back into the best buy dripping blood and everyone just stood around looking dumbfounded, and I told the door guys to call the police and an ambulance. I gave the police the same story as here and the ambulance took me to the hospital where they gave me a CAT scan and said my nose was broken in multiple places and that I would need reconstructive surgery.

the car has these hubcaps on it right now
but it is tinted like this

if you are in socal, plate is 5EGX823, it has a chrome rear license plate frame that says "Cal Poly Pomona" and has no front plate. If you see this car please call the police. If possible tell them where it is headed. I don't care so much about the car being recovered but the guy apprehended.

ed sorry i am losing track of time

Sent this to my buddy at Harvey Mudd. Hopefully that helps. =]

Cuz not everyone pulls a Jack Bauer and can still kill 50 more guys after getting stabbed in the shoulder.

Sorry to hear it man, hope you recover soon.

On lojack though, I personally dont' want a car that is stolen returned to me. Who knows what they did to my baby. I'd rather just get the insurance money and start a new relationship with a car. Thats just me though.

It's impossible to react when you're taken by suprise like that. I'm glad you weren't hurt worse (knife or gun in the back would really suck).

he walked up from behind, me not knowing, punched me repeatedly in a window of a couple seconds.

this knocked me down, as i was getting back up to hit him back, he grabbed the keys that i had dropped, and jumped in the car. I went for the door to try to pull him out, but he had locked door.

this is obviously not his first time.

Well, think of the good things, your nose didn't get pushed into your brain. The car's just property, insurance will cover it. Your life would be harder to replace. Cheer up.

yeah I am not looking for extra sympathy, I am just telling a story about how crooks work now, it was just dirty and low.

I know it sucks. My dad got mugged while we were sitting in the car waiting at the light. Broad daylight too, the guy just grabbed my dad's hand and ripped the Rolex off his hand. Come to think of it, that was one strong dude. He broke the pin that holds the belt to the timepiece.

I know you were not looking for sympathy. Crooks are crooks.

Please don't turn this into a gun thread.

Anywho, I'll be sure to look out for your car OP. Although, your car is a dime a dozen in So Cal
