I guess you have a long legal court case ahead of you. None the less, glad they caught the guy. He'll be doing some time now. Hopefully you can squeeze water out of a rock, but time will tell.

I want him to face more than jail time. I won't be satisfied until the thief works off the amount owed to you for crashing your car, plus damages for mental anguish.

it's a start, i was worried he would never be caught. If he had half a brain, he could have just dumped the car somewhere and he probably would have never been caught.

they caught him, i initially thought he was hispanic, but he is actually a light skinned black guy.

These guys are never smart. A lot of people have more frustration with fraud situations than muggers. Muggers are always the dumbest people on earth, and they're doing what they do usually for drug money.

My ex-boss and friend had her car stolen too in a parking lot, but was not assualted like yourself. They found they guy a week later passed out in the shell of car laying on the side of the road, obviously selling off whatever the car could be chopped up for and was overdosed on some type of narcotic.

As an FYI to you all, this is not a US only issue. I have and do own some powerful and desirable cars. My previous car, the WRX, is a target for thieves in the UK as it is quick and can be used to climb public staircases and cross medians, etc during a getaway. One of our members of the Subaru Drivers Club was Carjacked in Scotland. Two guys jumped the car at some lights, dragged him out, hit him with a baseball bat and broke one of his legs. All to get a car.

Now I'm in the M3 I always keep my eyes open when returning to my car. Never get your keys out till you are about to use them! Check all those around you and if necessary keep walking past your car if you feel unsure. If you are returning to it and someone is close but not close enough to jump you, hop in and hit the lock switch right away. Better safe than sorry. As for red light jackings, get the auto lock set on your car. Nearly all car models with central locking have speed sensitive locking and lock at about 10mph or so. This prevents you forgetting and getting jacked due to lack of attention.

The GF's car has fully keyless entry, so she never has to get keys out, and the auto lock is set to activate at 10mph or so.

Sad that we have to live this way, but that is how it is. No matter what country you live in.

Crime happens everywhere... Some of the most dangerous cities in America are in Pennsylvania.

Cities being the operative word... when you live in the middle of corn fields and cow sh1t... there's usually very little to worry about.

If I'm not there to stop someone from taking my car in the act, I keep one of those little pager sized GPS transmitters with a pre-paid SIM card hidden in it. All I have to do is send a text message and I'll know exactly where my car is and call the police. I will already be in the area or on my way to it and make a 911 call for "officer assistance" in retrieving my vehicle, ie: if you don't get your asses out here now, I'm going to handle it myself. I'll just say I am armed and capable of defending myself if necessary, but please hurry so I don't have to, and hang up the phone. That should get them there in a hurry.
