I was diagnosed with astigmatism

Just last year, I had no astigmatism
This year, my doctor told me that I had it. Just a week before the appointment, I had a huge stye on my upper eyelid. (By the time that I went to my optometrist, the stye was very minor.

Could the astigmatism have been caused by my massive stye?
And if it did cause it, can it be reversed over time?

(Right now, I have to wear toric lenses in my left eye in order to have my eyesight better in it)

I doubt a stye will cause your cornea to become misshapen.
I've had plenty of HUGE styes and none of them have ever resulted in an astigmatism .

Yes, it can be caused by a stye.

Causes of astigmatism:

* Heredity
* Lid swelling such as caused by a stye
* Corneal scars
* Keratoconus

i'm not sure if the two are related.

styes are some sort of bacterial infection around the eye.

astigmatism is when your eye shape becomes more like a football instead of round, so i think everything becomes stretched out. it can be caused by too much squinting, etc. if i'm not mistaken. astigmatism does not get better naturally, just like vision. so you can develop it over the course of a year, just like your vision can get worse after a year.

google it for more concrete facts. i mite be spewing nonsense.

I thought of it when I got home after I left my doctor
Regardless, the doctor assigned me an appointment in 2 weeks to check up with my toric lenses, so I can ask then

First off, an astigmatism is any distortion of the lense of the eye that causes light to refract inproperly, not any specific shape or part or lense. Yes, it can be caused by a stye, or getting poked in the eye, a splinter, inflammation etc. Provided the cause is dealt with, it will heal in time, though it could be several months. And yes, they heal naturally - there really isn't any other kind of healing.
