I did nothing to provoke the attack. He was asleep, she snuck out with no permission. We came back, stopped, and then he approached from the left side of the car and hit me, called me an asshole, I pressed gas slightly, he tried to grab key, I drove up road and stopped, she got out, I left.

should have posted this up at the top. details are EVERYTHING.
definitely report to the police.

dude, he prob. thought you are boning his 15 year old daughter. don't be a dick, if he actually caused you harm, then file charges, and sue if you want. but if it's a tap on the face? just chalk it up and learn from the experience. STOP going out with 15 year old little girls who are sneaking out of the house!

You're such a pussy. If i had a daughter and a douchebag like you was keeping her out after hours i'd beat the hell out of you with a toy too... a big metal toy.

Well, that's officially the most irrational thing I've heard/read all day.

Chalk this up to experience, don't take his daughter out again, and don't sue him.

Your vagina is showing.

Seriously man, get over it. Talk to him before you go calling the cops on him. Believe it or not, sometimes when you randomly press charges against a randomly violent person that can do physical harm to you, they can get MORE VIOLENT.

I hope he beats your ass for wasting his time with the cops

Well, let's see... if I was a parent and had a 15 year old daughter, I'd be nervous about her dating an older guy in the first place. Then if she snuck out late to be somewhere with him, and I didn't know where they were or what they had been up to... well, just put yourself in his shoes...

What if he went to check on her for some reason and found her gone? And you haven't said anything about what was going on in the car... if I see my daugter coming back from sneaking out, making out with an older guy in his car... well, I probably wouldn't hit him. But I'd be pretty pissed and can't say (without hearing both sides) that I necessarily blame this guy for "assaulting" you (did it even hurt?).

On top of all that, it sounds like you were well-aware that she was sneaking out, which just isn't cool. It's disrespectful... and if you care at all about the girl then you should care about her parents' wishes (which to my knowledge werent' unreasonable). I can't believe you have the nerve to try to sue or press charges after this... that's about as logical as him pressing charges for kidnapping or something. Good lord... what you should be doing is apologizing for taking his daughter out past curfew.

I mean, damn, am I alone here or does anyone else hear crap like this and feel like society's on a downward spiral?

That's not as relavent as you would like to make it. It doesn't matter why, he facilitated her staying out beyond curfew.

That isn't really the issue I have with this guy anyway. My problem is that he's thinking about suing the dad.

Did her dad know this? I'm not a parent, but I know that when I am one I'm gonna worry about my kids... if there's something we're missing, please fill us in, but otherwise just try to put yourself in his position. Yeah, hitting you in any manner isn't justified, but I don't think you're making anything better for anyone.

I'd never sue anyone for this, just complain to the police. I don't know what you US guys have with suing eachother all day long

dude, you sure you're not 13?

you knew she was sneaking out, you helped, you got yourself into this situation, you're lucky he only threw a toy at you. who knows what was going through his mind when he found his daughter missing late at night.doesn't matter if you were dating or not, and from your posts so far, I wouldn't be surprised if you weren't telling us everything. a 17 year old boy taking a girl out and he's not thinking about getting into her pants? suck it up! and find yourself a girl that doesn't have to sneak out.

Yeah, as you can tell frivilous law suits really boil my blood. They should really make me a judge.

I wonder if there are any countries that wouldn't stand for this kind of stuff and are more free than we are. Maybe like Australia or New Zealand.

They'd be nice places to live.

I don't know. But I can tell you there here its a little different. You just don't take your personal grudges to the court.
what will it cost to sue someone over this kind of thing? that might be the reason. If you decide on it around here expect to pay $3k+ just in legal fees.

you know, I think America is the only place where we have to sign a waiver for just about anything.
