You were not robbed, you were burgled.

Main Entry: rob
Pronunciation: 'räb
Function: verb
Inflected Form(s): robbed; rob·bing
Etymology: Middle English robben, from Old French rober, of Germanic origin; akin to Old High German roubOn to rob ?more at REAVE
Date: 13th century
transitive senses
1 a (1) : to take something away from by force : steal from (2) : to take personal property from by violence or threat

Main Entry: bur·glar·ize
Pronunciation: 'b&r-gl&-"rIz also 'b&r-g&-l&-
Function: verb
Inflected Form(s): -ized; -iz·ing
Date: 1871
transitive senses
1 : to break into and steal from

In short, if someone takes something from you while you are away, it is burglery. If they take it from YOU by force, it is robbery.

I know, I love nitpicking.

I feel your pain. I was burglarized this weekend My friend took me to a golf range and I took my 10d and stuff to take some pictures...it started to rain so left it in the car. 45 minutes later, car window was busted in and they took it all, about $4000 in camera equipment Called home owners insurance, $500 deductable and rates will probably go up like $700 a year on it for 3 years if I claim it on them. Plus there is damage to the car door and stuff

If you can help it, never leave anything expensive in plain view within a car. People never think twice about it, but those thin windows are too inviting.. and they're usually parked in public areas where the thief can make a quick getaway. My fiancee thinks it's ok to leave her purse in the car even if we stop for 5-10 minutes. How long do you think it takes to crack open a window and remove the purse ?

Ok, it's time to try and figure out who did this to you. Alot of times burglars are people you know. Did you have anyone over in the last couple months? Someone who's been where the stuff was robbed? Did you go around anywhere (like school) with your camera and cd player? Maybe someone knew where you lived and took what they knew you had. Do you live in a bad neighbourhood?

I remember once when we moved into a house, the previous owners told us that they had a social gathering and they showed some antique jewelry collection that they had to the people who came over. About a week later all of it was robbed. So obviously someone at that gathering was involved.

Oh, and check the local pawn shops.

Something to think about.

i highly agree...

i would argue w/my gf about leaving her purse, cell phone, even LAPTOP in plain view in her car. Her argument was that she was at my house, which is a very safe area. I told her I didn't care if it was Fort Knox...Don't leave it in plain view! At least put it in the trunk!

she didn't listen until my mom's mercedes got broken into because she left a Ferragamo bag on her seat...

I actually had a little party a few days before I noticed the stuff was gone. The house didn't get broken into so I actually believe it was them. I just don't know what to do? Contact the police?

Oh... was gonna ask how they got in... So they just had an open window waiting or something?

Did the cops take any fingerprints around your place?

It wasn't in plain sight. I have a pacifica and it was behind the back seat. It was drizzling outside and it was getting dark and the car has privacy tinted windows. You can't see inside unless you stare with your hands covering your eyes for a min. What I found out from people who frequent the golf range is that some people will sit in the cars and watch people who park their cars and then once you get inside break the window take whatever they saw and leave. :|

Well it's sorta weird because I live in a side apartment to my house and the insurance classify that as a whole different thing. Stuff got stolen from my parent's house and they are getting money, but I get nothing.

Then claim it was inside your parents house ... I would
