Says someone who probably has never experienced it first hand.

There are peole on the intarwebs called "trolls".
Such people have an internet persona that has some kind of gimmick.
Some post rambling thoughts as if they were drunk or dyslexic, some act superior, some act like they know everything despite evidence proving them wrong, you get the idea.
The thing is, some are just assholes, simple as that. Just plain, run of the mill assholes.
This is one of those trolls.

Ok I guess my sarc meter is broken but if you really mean this you are either and idiot, cold hearted, or "battle hardened".

Or... he's a 12yr old who thinks the "worst part of dying is the corpse run back to your body.. or the durability hit if you spirit rez"

That's what I thought when I saw the under-slung exhaust but then I remembered the GSXR bikes now have it mostly underneath with a little "horn piece" tip coming up from the baffles to the side where a side muffler would usually be.

And I wasn't making excuses for the lady. She was 100% at fault. I'm just sad that her one lapse in concentration caused her to take someone's life. There is no way that she was trying to make it before the bike, she just didn't see him. How many times have we all started to take off when at the last second we saw a car that seemed to come out of nowhere and had to jam on the brakes?

Today, on my motorbike. I was turning right in a turn lane when the green arrow switched to red. I stopped and was going to go right on red but a pedestrian stepped out. This was because the cross street was not going, but I glanced left just before making my right-on-red and they were still on the other side of the street. My glance was too short to tell that they were already moving, which I should have known considering that the crosswalk had just allowed a ped. Even so, I was able to blast the accelerator with plenty of time and make it look like I meant to do that.

I saw a kid lying dead near a bus stop yesterday on my way to work. Must have been about 12-13 years old. Homeless kid, hit-and-run. Pretty sure they will never find the driver and I really doubt they will be able to ID the kid or figure out if he has any relatives. The police sure isn't going to bother with that around here. Gruesome sight, that's for sure.

Erasing images like that from your mind is still easy. What isn't easy is when you are standing by the side of the road and a motorcyclist cracks his skull open (with a gooey fountain of blood) right in front of your eyes, maybe 15-20 feet away. I saw that a couple of years ago and I still get queasy any time I am around the scene of an accident. /shudder

It sucks that you had to witness that, rudeguy.

It always scares me that this might happen to me one day at one of those times I'm not at my optimal alertness. So the woman gets vehicular manslaughter? Felony? What's her future going to be like aside from the guilt?

Don't feel bad for not getting out right away, there is nothing saying the scene was completely safe. And unless you are trained in 1st aid, there might not have been much you could have done.

I did some ER time when getting my 1st aid training years ago and I can still vividly remember some very ghastly people. Doesn't "bother" me, but memories are still there. Just give it time and it'll fade.

What's so traumatizing about seeing someone die in in front of you? It's part of live, it comes and go. No worries.

If you have never seen a person die right in front of you suddenly then shut up ! People watch movies and play games and think it is no big deal. Try experiencing watching someone get shot , fall to the ground, or worse yell for a minute or two before they die. You will not forget it. Ask every soldier who has shot and killed someone if they forget about it.

I know I never will forget.

There was nothing we could do to revive him and he died. It was kind of hard to deal with at first, but I have come to terms with it now. The hardest thing for me was dealing with the fact that not 10 minutes before he died I was talking to him and everything seemed normal.

That is the thing to remember . Sometimes there is nothing you can do. You aren't superhuman with the ability to heal on a touch.

Never seen anything like that before. Its been 9 days and I still don't know how to feel. I guess I feel bad because I didn't stop but by the time I was in a safe place to get out of my car, 3 or 4 other people had already gotten out of theirs and they were going towards the guy. Maybe its because it very easily could have been me that took out the guy. If I had been talking to my son or turning the radio station or....man. Just messed me up.

Many people see death on tv and become numb to the idea of death. But when you see it firsthand it has a real shock value that makes you realize how uncertain life is and how quickly things can change.

For those that have done something like hit an animal or made a bad choice keep in mind when thinking things like I should have done whatever and it wouldn't have happened ,that you made the choice you did based on the information you had at the time not with information you know now. I hate the word should because it implies someone knew everything that was going to happen and decided to do something else.

I imagine the person that hit the guy is thinking all sorts of things, if only I had done this or that. I don't believe in ESP and doubt many people use it when making decisions.

Riding a motorcycle means the rider has decided to assume a level of risk, that level of risk is higher than many are willing to admit.

Well you assume risk when you get into a car too. So I guess if we find out you got plowed over by a semi we'll just say he knew the risks involved.

Wait? I'm still not sure what happened here. You say you came to stop in the left hand turn lane and hear a thud, and see a wreck behind you? Then you say you had seen the motorcycle while turning, but you haven't turned yet because you just said you came to a stop in the left hand turn lane...

I actually do. But then again, I was a MSF instructor for years, and work(ed) in trauma rated surgery departments and emergency departments for years.

WTF is wrong with you? Do you really think bikes are safe? I can link you with study after study that shows bikes are a hell of a lot less safe than the crappiest car on the road.

There a long river in the Middle East you may have heard of it's called de Nile...

killing someone is not the same as watching someone simply die from circumstances beyond your control.

You're totally missing the point. I'm not even going to bother looking up the statistics because it's just common sense.

That incident is the number one cause of death in multi-vehicle motorcycle accidents. As a rider myself I am always looking out for someone else impeding my right of way...always.

That dude had zero chance. If you look at the damage on her car, he hit the very front quarter panel, almost her bumper. So he may have had .02 seconds to say a quick "oh fuck" before he hit her. It was early in the morning after all...I know most people's reflexes aren't the best at 7:45am.

As far as the turning part: I was turning out of a driveway and making a left. Here its legal to turn into the left turn lane until cross traffic clears, you just can't drive in it. So I had just stopped and was waiting for traffic to clear.

I laugh at people on bikes that get killed doing stupid shit like wheelies. This though sucks. Not the bikers fault at all.

People that ride bikes are asking for death. Honestly, my wife is always wanting one but I've banned her from even riding a friends one. They're death machines. All you need is one driver not paying attention and what may be a minor accident on a car v car is a fatal accident on a bike v car.

By the way, I saw someone jump off my building a few years ago. They died on impact....took me a bit of time to get over it. So I know where you are man.

So you just stop in the lane? What if there are other people wanting to turn left that come up behind you? Seems weird.

can't.trust.anybody.

Just finished my MSF course. The first thing the instructor told us was "Assume everyone out there wants to kill you. The day you forget that is the day something happens to you."

I won't ever forget that.

Shit happens.

I'd not get upset over it unless I was the person though. :/

You're an idiot. We don't expect you to understand anything happening in the real world.

rough man, get some counseling, kiss you kid, grab a cold beer. That's not an easy situation to get over on your own.
forget the beer part (only b/c i know rudeguy).
posting this thread can serve as some counseling, but if he needs more he knows how/where to get it.

life changing moment rudeguy. sometimes we witness these things and become aware of our own mortality. i hope you work through it ok.
