I think humanity heavily relies on the internet, and would have been significantly held back in our advancements had the internet never been created.

i just know we were so information poor. think of tip of the tongue syndrome. you are trying to remember the name of X actor. but you remember his movie.... before the internet you couldn't find the info without a lotta trouble, calling people blabbity blah blah. what a sucky world imdb ftw!

Exactly, what we see as simplistic tasks now (aka consult with google ), would have been much different without the internet.

Ummm... It hasn't been around in its present form that long. Just think back to the early 80's. That's about what it would be like.

i think even things like cell phones make a big difference. remember when you would go to the park with a bunch of people and said "ok lets meet here at this time". Now with cell phones you can just call and be like "so uh..... where are you?"
i know cell phones != internet, but i always think about that^^

I wonder how many of us would still be interested in computers at all if it hadn't been for the internet.

I probably wouldn't have bothered dabbling with them much.

Just think though, we have been the last generation whereby the answer to almost any question wasn't instantly available. Whereby you'd have to go ask someone else who may know, or get a <hushed whisper>book</hushed whisper> about it. As someone said, actor names, that's one example, but literally, if you want to learn about anything, you can find hundreds of articles etc in minutes.

Another great little example a friend and I commented on a while ago, remember back in the dark ages, if you wanted to check cinema times, you had to look in the newspaper? Hapless savages.

I love that about the Internet. Nearly anything I want to know, instantly available at my fingertips. Love it!
