I3 6320 or I7 6700?

I already have a B150 chipset motherboard. I am just looking to upgrade the cpu. I am happy with my current GPU performance. Looks like I should be looking into I5 or I7 then.

Before choosing the i7 over i5, please make sure your build or upgrade budget includes: SSD storage, more than 8GB of RAM.

:thumbsup: Then you're all set, pick the CPU you want. It all comes down to what you're willing to spend today.

I would still caution you to consider i3-i5 before going for i7, but in the end it doesn't really matter that much since getting the upper tier CPUs will extend the longevity of the system by a few years. (in the sense of adequate performance in games)

What performance are you unhappy with that you want a CPU upgrade, then? How do you know it's your CPU holding you back and not your GPU?

The i5 has turbo. Yes, the i5 6400 lacks clockspeed, but with a 6500 or 6600k you will lose very little single threaded performance, and gain four real cores. I would rather spend the 80 bucks or so initially and hope (a likely chance IMO) the i5 will be good enough indefinitely than to buy two cpus. After all, you can upgrade the i5 as well, but it is much less likely to need upgrading than an i3. Plus you will have a better experience until the upgrade.

This, buy an 3.2+ ghz i5, lower clock i5s are not worth it imho, and you're set.

I still don't see why people are recommending i5s and i7s for games like PoE/LoL/Skyrim. He will probably see 0 gains with an i5 over an i3, and since it's easier to get clockspeed on an i3, he will probably get better performance out of one of those.

I agree than the G4400 is kind of pushing it, hence the semi-justification for looking at a CPU upgrade, but . . . really, a gpu upgrade might be in the cards as well.

I a few months ago I upgraded to a 750TI from a HD7750 because I got a great deal on it $75. I was considering an I7 because it can turbo to 4Ghz and the I3 because it has a high base clock and would still get me 2 additional threads. The I5 seems like a turn off because the base clocks are so low.
