Looking at building for a friend who wants Intel a non over clocked i3 and i5 computers the former will have 2GB and the latter probably 4GB. Neither will be overclocked. The i5 will be used for general purpose and photoshopping. The i3 will be used in an office environment both will be using Win7. I had a bad experience with Gigabyte P55-UD3 and a beeping in the speaker which was darn annoying. To my horror it appears that Gigabyte has still not fixed this problem as someone else here in the forum is currently having this same problem.

Would prefer if the i3 mb had on board video.

The integrated video with both i3 CPU's and also certain i5's actually is incorporated in the CPU. To enable it you need a MB with an H55 or H57 chipset (the main difference being the H57 supports RAID). The P55 chipset on the Gigabyte board mentioned would require a video card. I have a Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3 with the i3-530 and am quite pleased with it. Are you also looking to use the integrated video on the i5 build?

You might want to go with a good P55 board for the i5. Anyone else have any suggestions on which motherboard?

I've build several systems with the Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3. Sure, it's refresh of the P55-UD3 but on the 3 x i5 750 systems I've done (2 mild gaming ones and one Photoshopping/video work one with 8GB of RAM) have all been running fine on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

yeah that gigabyte squeaking/beeping from the speaker problem is all over the net now, i wonder what the cause is. I would reccomend the Asus P7H55-M Pro for the i3 and the P7P55 LX for the i5.

edit for poor spelling

On another forum, it was posted (speculated?) that it is due to a flaw in the Intel chip. I have no way of verifying if that part is true, however, disabling the CPU overheat alarm does eliminate the beep:

"Intel processor has internal bug with the digital thermal sensor when C3/6/7 enabled, it occasionally generates false value that triggered off the CPU temp warning in ITE chip used on the board."

And, here we've all been ragging on Gigabyte. :whiste:

Well, now that Gigabyte apparently implemented the Intel-recommended workaround in a new BIOS release, I'm quite pleased with the Gigabyte P55A that I have. No more pesky beeps!

I've been using a P55M-UD2 since last December. Not one problem with it, has every feature (except USB3), and was cheap. Perfect board if you don't overclock.

Just build two, one for and and other for my wife. Using ASUS P55DE-Pro motherboard and Intel Core i5-760. Excellent and so far no issue. Also like to mention 6GB/s SATA drive and SSD flies like supersonic.

If you're not overclocking, go budget, at least for the i3. You can sometimes find H55 boards for $50 A/R, especially at Fry's and Microcenter.

That being said, if you're going to be buying an external drive in the near future, make sure the mobo is USB 3.0 ready (and the external as well). SATA 6GB/s is also great if you're going to get drives that can use it.

edit...lol...damn necro threads...
