Just got it running in the BIOS for now and it's showing 60C idling, with the stock Intel HSF.
Surely that's too high?

Sounds very high to me. You could try reapplying the paste and yes if you reseat the chip you will need to reapply. I always do at least.
Under a corsair H50 my idle temps were in the mid 40's which seemed high. Re-applied and it was down in the mid 30's so it can make a difference.
Slight Hijack.. insom I am currently putting my 2600K setup toghter and am interested in who you feel the H50 is working for you? I have read some others are using it and the more info I get the better. I have a new H50 (from an older project) and a new XigamTek Dark Knight.. I had planned on runnning 2 fans on the H50 (some very interesting reads on it with different fans) but Sound is a issue... I dont want to go back ot the old Hair dryer jet fans..
How is the H50 working for you OC'ing (if you are) and are you running a single fan or more?
And sorry to OP, just not alot of H50 talk now that he H70 is out.
