Got myself an Asrock Z150m Pro4s and I'm going to try and OC..... we'll see if it'll let me up bclk.

Just put this beast together, 100% load on all 4 cores maxed out at 37C which to me is very impressive with this $20 hyper 212 evo.

Anyone have any experience OCing non K processors?

Experience? Only as a possibility so far. I keep referencing my "big project" of the summer for building a server to replace the old one. I had a spare (used, refurbished, $85) Z68 Gen3 motherboard, and I found an i5-3470 Ivy Bridge CPU for it.

I wasn't planning to OC the server rig, but discovered that I can probably boost the 3470 to about 4.2 Ghz.

I think it shows short-sightedness to pick a non-K processor if you PLANNED to overclock extensively. But howsoever you make the choice, it's always useful to explore the remaining possibilities.

I planned on overclocking it a little bit, and was on a budget. Just tried it just out of fun because the new rig hasn't hiccupped at anything I've thrown at it. like 3.9Ghz and 38C full load.

What sort of stress test are you using?

With the Ivy Bridge 3470, XTU yields a peak 58C on the lead core. IntelBurnTest "Maximum" pushes it to around 68C. And I'm aware that IB was the first generation without Indium solder between the IHS and processor die, and that an "improved" polymer TIM came into the picture with the generation before your i5-6500.

Nor would I use IBT on a Haswell or Skylake processor. But I'm still mystified by your report of 38C as a "load" temperature value, if you aren't using a water-cooling strategy.
