Here is what I'd buy right now if I was buying an i5 build right now for gaming purposes:
$305 i5 750 w/Gigabyte UD2 mobo.
$273 - $10 MIRc = $263! combo is: AMD 4890 1 gb GPU w/4gb's of G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1333 mHz RAM!
$125 Antec 300 case w/Antec New TP-550w PSU combo!!
$75 shipped! WD Black 640 gb HD!!
~$35 LiteOn DVD burner

Total ~$815 - $10 MIRc = ~$805!!! Now just add your favorite OS and your good to game for under $905!!!

What do you guys think of this build. I'm not buying it, but thought I'd throw out a semi-budget i5 build. I know you could get a mini-ATX mobo but at $110 shipped it'll be hard to beat for a bit!

I can't believe how good an i5 system will be if you don't plan on upgrading. It's a great deal for the money, but for gaming rigs I plan to wait for HD5000 series and then do the i5 upgrade all at once. Aren't the 5000's supposed to be out pretty soon? I thought I remembered reading something about early September, but I could be mistaken. Unfortunately I know nadda about P55 motherboards. I need to wait for some round-ups to be published before I form any opinions.

Sept. 10th if the quote below means anything:
"Big news for the Graphic Card industry. AMD?s ATI Radeon 5000 series GPUs are expected to launch on September 10 via a private event we talked about earlier. The news though still not officially announced in this context - did originate from AMD themselves. They dropped the tip indirectly via a presentation slide which was given at Quakecon 09, along with a video demoing some of the DirectX 11 features."
Quoted from here.

Hopefully this is true so we can get a glimpse of the future. Maybe this'll push the 4890's down to the $125ish range for Christmas!!

There's something we know about p55 motherboards, which is that ones made by reliable manufactures will be good, or if there are issues, they will be sorted out--if you buy a reliable manufacturer. Asus, Gigabyte and EVGA are not ruining a reputation for being the best in the business by letting a bunch of crap motherboards hit the market and not at the very least doing something about it.

That's why I took a chance and ordered the very mobo in OP last night.

Let us know how well the system works out for you. And please list your specs when you mention the results that you get.

I'm sad that all these nice combos didn't make it to canada yet. Newegg.ca doesn't have a single p55 in its combo section, but Ncix somewhat covers for that.

Are you planning on overclocking your rig philosofool? I wonder how that entry level board with so few heatsinks overclocks.

The $196 per 1000 units was correct. Also, I'm checking out Circuitcity.com, would that be reliable to buy the i5 from?
