Hello! As thread said, im close to buy ONE of theese CPU'S....

i have H100 as cooling, and i wanna MAX FPS in Handbrake... u know, Video Editing.. i use it EVERY day so i need THE HIGHEST O.C that the best of theese 2 cpu's can give me... what u believe ? with a simple search i found that 2700K beats 3770K in Overclock... it is really FASTER than 3770K ??

The 3770K is also faster clock for clock.

Go 3770K.

Also in terms of overclock, you can just as well get a lemon 2700K.

At the same clock speed you are looking at the Intel® Core™ i7-3770K running about 6% faster at the same speed as the Intel Core i7-2700K. So even if you can't overclock the Intel Core i7-3770K as fastest as the Intel Core i7-2700K you will likely get equal or better performance from it.

You'll overclock the 2700K more, but the 3770K performs better, so assuming you get roughly equal quality 2700K vs 3770K, you'd have to overclock the 2700K by about 5% more to get equal performance.

So, you'd probably get about equal performance since you can OC the 2700K more... but, if you de-lid the 3770K you'll get better performance there.

This is a generic performance comparison though, specific results may vary.

Also, 3770K has a better IGPU, supports 3 displays instead of 2, supports PCI-E3, and USB3.

After about 4.5GHz though, it's just blurs, and error rates they're basically equal.

4.7 GHz i7-3770K is similar as 4.9 GHz i7-2700K. Average OC at IB 3770K could be now about 4600 MHz (depens at luck, motherboard, temps). Olders batchs was much better...The same situation is with Sandy Bridge. But usually is Sandy Bridge more OC able than IB. 2700K can hit around 4800 MHz stable in most cases.

IB is also hotter in load, around 1.35V+ begins power consumption crazy and Sandy is after better in power consumption too (1.375V IB vs 1.45V SB).
But is better choice new one than old one. OC IB is in some optimalizations better than SB OC and more funny with Liquid Nitrogen .

For video encoding etc is not bad FX-8320/8350 too. But AMDs has higher power consumption than this SBs/IBs.

3770K also has a lower power consumption, but "runs hotter" due to the use of paste instead of solder between the die and the IHS. My 3770K runs in the low 80s (full normal load) on a Thermaltake Water 2.0 Performer at 4.3GHz/1.175v with cheap TIM.

Overall, I like my 3770K more than my 2600K despite the thermal "problems."

IMO you should go with the 3770K if those are your only two choices.

If you really want max FPS without going multi-socket then you should be looking at SB-E and LGA2011.

So u are all telling me to go 3770K for more FPS ? even with a lower O.C than 2700K - 3770K will be faster ?

what u mean blur ? CANT run more than 4.5GHZ ? because now im running 4.4GHZ in my 960

I meant the difference in performance between the two becomes blurred, ie: error margins.

@ 5GHz, they'll both behave similar, one might be faster than the other, but you could flip a coin on which one it would be.

Depends on how much lower, right? No OC is guaranteed either. Buy a 2700k and maybe you max out at 4.4GHz, get a 3770k and maybe you max at 5GHz.

My 2600k maxes at 5GHz, my 3770k maxed at 4.9GHz. I'd take the 3770k.

Which will end up faster after OC is really luck of the draw. I would buy the cheaper option, in my country 2700K is 15% less expensive than 3770k so IVY is really a bad value compared to SB where I live, especially without removing the IHS on IVY.

Off-topic @ Lepton @ sig... how do you spend that much money on stuff, board, PSU, 3 6900 GPUs... and yet, only 4.4GHz?

I'm sure you have your reasons... just seems like a waste.

You probably pay a pretty eurocent for electricity too though, so IB might still be the smarter option if TCO is considered.

I have a temperature problem with my CPU. Currently cooled by Noctua NH-D14 and it's almost bumping at TJmax at 4.4GHz. I suspect the IHS is badly soldered to the CPU die. Still, I don't think I would notice a difference if it was at 4.8GHz so I no longer care about it. Formerly I had Zalman CNPS 10x and exactly the same temps.

The CPU is really such a small fraction of my power consumption that I don't care about 50W one way or the other.
ps. Not eurocents, my country still doesn't have Euro. PLN.

Digits.

Mine is 3224B649 (3570K)

3 = Costa Rica
2 = 2012 (1 = 2011)
24 = week 24
B = lot
649 = #

3/C = Costa Rica
L = Malaysia

So, a chip produced today, would be: 3304B300 ... or something.

Yes, or wait for Ivy Bridge E coming Q3 2013 with 6core to 12core.
Enthusiast desktop would be a nice 8 core 16 threads. I think 10 and 12 cores are for the Xeon Ivy E , thx gl
