i7-3770k OC

I am running an i7-3770k with a COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO. This is my first OC so I was wondering what a good starting point is. Obviously I'll run it through prime95 for a day for stability but I want a good starting point since I don't know what to realistically expect. (both multiplier and voltage plz)

well 4.2 ran for 12 hours, no issues. where should I go next? I'm not trying to get an extreme oc, just something decent.

If you want to try more, go for it. x45 multi @ 1.27-1.29v should work.

I get threads failing right away in prime95 with 4.4GHz @2.7 v

Do I up the voltage? How much?

edit* it is ALWAYS worked 3 the fails right away. does that have any significance?

Whatever your BIOS allows you. Just don't go above recommended "safe" voltage. 2.7v is definitely not safe, though

4.5GHz @ 1.315V still blue screens. Do I up the voltage more or just go to 4.4?

at 4.4 I'm hitting 96c on some cores

Sounds like you got a bum chip. I would drop it to 4.2ghz @ ~ 1.20 -1.25v and call it a day. Anything over 1.25v your going to get some insane temps on a Hyper 212.

My 3770k isn't the greatest either.

Anything over 85C is too far. It's not worth it. Lower your clocks to 4.2 or 4.3 and run at stock voltage.

IMO no more than 85c on a 4.4ghz overclock. Yeah, the TJMAX is 105c but I would like to be at least 20c cooler than that. Seems that you need to pump a ton of voltage to get that CPU to run stable. Its not worth it if you have to exceed 1.25v to achieve 4.4ghz.

What is your stock voltage hitting at? Mine is 1.17v

There's probably some things in the BIOS you can tweak like PLL voltage etc. However, it would take a long time to go through all of that over a forum.
