Hi,

what do you think guys about the new i7-6950X ?
I really like the specs and the fact it's c10/t20, which should really help for video rendering applications, but the estimated street price of $1700+ is really a bummer.

I read something about some revamped motherboard models better supporting it expected to show up at Computex. Does anybody spotted any new LGA-2011-v3 motherboards recently?

Only you can determine if it's worthwhile. In general if you're using this thing in a business and it increases productivity, then it's probably worthwhile. Afterall, labor and software costs are higher than hardware costs.

Buy Haswell 5960X. Despite is an Octacore (and has 4 threads less), is still better than the DecaCore since it uses all of them.

May as well buy the new 8-Core Broadwell-E replacement for the Ci7 5960X. No reason why I would buy a 2 years old Haswell-E unless is much cheaper.

Also, as far that I know, the Xeons E5 2600V4 Broadwell-E are already available since at least one month ago, is the Core i7 and Single Processor, high Frequency Xeon E5 1600V4 for Workstations that still didn't launched. If you want Cores, you may be better off building NOW a Dual Processor system instead of a 1700 U$D 10 Core Single Processor. I'm sure there would be some reasonabily priced, medium Frequency 6-Core Xeons E5 2600V4 fo 1700 U$D that would make the Ci7 6950X pointless if you want Cores. The 8-Core 2.1 GHz Xeon E5 2620V4 is 435 U$D in Newegg.
