I honestly have no idea how you are getting 4.0ghz 24/7 at 100% load on the Core i7 stock cooler.

Prolimatech Megahalems and TRUE get 70-80*C at 4.0ghz on the 920 D0. So what are your temperatures?

Yeah, I'm calling shens on that part.

on a stock cooler?

hmm... he has his computer outside in the cold?
If his ambients is l ike 5C i would believe 70-81C on a stock cooler.

IMO:

Tripple Channel Memory is just something to increase your epeen - when's the last time applications were memory bandwidth limited? 2002?

2x8 or 2x16, saturating the PCI-E 2.0 buss isn't really going to happen at 16x let alone 8x. Maybe if your running SLI/xFire 3xx/5xxx series. If your running such high end cards, why are you even looking at a p55 mainstream board?

It's pretty easy to find out what you should get.

P55 is mainstream, x58 is high end enthusiest

Think you're going to spend $1600 on your computer? Buy x58, under $1000? Buy p55.

I went with P55 because the 860 is a damn good CPU for the price and fits my HD4890.

For my money the 860 is the better choice. Why? Performance is roughly the same but the 860 is cheaper (for the system) and more importantly is more efficient. My computer is on A LOT and saving a bit here and there in places where you can't feel it is a nice bonus.

The best/only? reason would be a Microcenter in store $199.99 i7 920 vs 229.99 i7 860

then your 1366 board choice was $200 vs your 1156 was also $200

then the $30 chip savings should get you close on the 6gb vs 4gb ram cost

Yes there is the heat an electricity cost and any other numbers of 'problems' on 1366 that have only cropped up since the 1156 debuted
