i7 970 stock cooler woes...silent replacement?

Just put together my new i7 970 last night and noticed the stock cooler is freaking loud, and its unbearable when set to performance mode. The thing wines and sounds like a vaccum. Im getting around 33c temps as well. My old arctic freezer 64 is dead silent compared to this thing

I dont plan on doing a 4ghz oc for 24/7, maybe just 3.8 or 3.6
I need something quiet, but with nice oc potential.

Any ideas?

Rifterut- Ive got 3x4 ripjaws on my p6x58d-e, will that nh-d14 clear those? I know that cooler is massive.

any thoughts on scythe mugen 2? Its a lot cheaper than those options.

or go all out on a real custom water setup, and grab your gpu while ur at it, so you can get rid of that nasty fan inside your gpu as well.

I could not be happier with a CPU cooler unless that one was a lot cheaper.

I'm running a mild overclock on my i5-760, (3.374) and the worst I've seen with the Intel Burn Test on maximum is 59 degrees.
I can live with that since I don't usually load the CPU that heavily in normal use.
Idle temps are always less than 35...and usually around 30.

Don't know if the deal is still availble, but there should be a Xigmatek Dark Knight for $25 AR on newEgg. Damn fine HSF that's been keeping my 920 @ 4.1GHz cool for the last 1.5 years.

can you remove the heatsink on the ripjaws? they look like shorter heatsinks, not as big as the dominators which i know do NOT fit with the NH-D14.

If you measure your ram in mm and tell me its height i will measure, i have a NH-D14 on a P6X58D-E right now.
