i7 Temp

So my i7 920 is sitting at 3.8 ghz prime95 stable with stock voltage.

Idle: 46C
Load (prime 95): 70C
Ambient: 30C

Is this OK?

the full sweep is 9 3/4hrs but those temps are good - what does Hardware Monitor read for your vcore volts?

Yeah I'll probably run another test for that long. Voltage is at 1.270.

I have turbo mode running so it automatically changes it. I shouldn't of said stock.

30C ambient? Ambient as in your room temp, or temp inside the case?

If it's the latter then you have a very cool setup and the CPU temp is excellent for what you've got. If it's the former.. well, I don't know what to say.

That's about an average CPU temp actually. Try LinX 6.0 to see where it goes. It's rather unrealistic to believe any real world application would push the CPU this far but it's a good "absolute worst case scenario" for processor operation.

Well what if you're crunching prime numbers 24/7 for a month? I don't think prime95 compares to that.

If you need accuracy your margins should be higher - aka never produce an error in these programs. Either run stock or o/c and test with much more aggression. For example slow down airflow so CPU temperature is 98C on all four cores for 10 days. If no crashes occur then you have decent stability and should not have a crash (at least thermally related) in the 60's. To be completely safe use ECC memory and no overclocking on anything.

As far as crunching or DC I've never really thought those programs produced near max heat.

I think your doing just fine.
I have a TRUE 120 and my core i7 920 is only at 3.0 (150 X20) with votage at 1.10
Idle 42C
Load 62C
RT 27 - 29C

I tried to get the advertised 36-39C idle temps but they never happened for me :disgust:
Still a happy camper though.

Im getting idle temps 36-39c with my xig dark knight but load with p95 8 threads and turbo on I get up to 78c on hottest core. Im running it at 3.5 ghz stock voltage. It went 23 hours p95 testing with no problems. I will keep it at 3.5 for now.

cool, I run LINX with 20 passes and my system is rock solid. I've used Prime 95 to calibrate RealTemp so that all of my 4 cores are +/-1 or equal to each other.

I done tinkering with it I just gaming now and having a blast the only thing that stresses it out is Crysis and thats only when I under water in the cave and maybe one other incident on the carrier. For the most part I'm getting 45 FPS at 1680 X 1050.

My temps were even higher until I got a scythe kraze fan. Man those things rock.
