Just curious what way we are leaning. I don't use it...having problems keeping system stable with it on above 3.6Ghz. It want's lots of power.

it really depends on the batch you get i guess ;P I finally got mine stable at 3.8ghz with decent but not good enough temperatures. And I dont like the vcore voltage much at 1.4v but this is how it is stable so i guess i have to live with it

right now i have HT on with 1.45v
I had it 1.4v but i got a BSOD using prime
but this seem to be alot of Voltage for a 3.8ghz oc i seen ppl use less but i dunno i'll see if this is stable but temp is a issue its at the 80's

Yes it makes a difference in stability. You have to try both and see what works out best. For those desiring highest clock speed and aren't particularly concerned with SMP (encoding, etc.) then a higher clock with HT off may be better.

Something else tells me there are probably settings that can be modified to make it nearly as stable with HT on at the same given clock speed - providing you have sufficient cooling to deal with the additional heat.

welp i try to put the vcore at 1.42v and see how it goes

I'm still playing (after two weeks) with 3.6 and HT on. I keep raising the vcore but I'm now starting to run into thermal issues yet again...

I'm now @ 1.375 after yet another BSOD. Dump just keeps showing 101, which should be vcore, or lack of...

I think it is due to the cpu. what batch # did you guys have? My 920 (3841) is running fine at 3.8 and HT on with 1.28 in vcore.

I have a very similar chip; i am also at 3.8 with a 1.28 vcore. I hit the upper 60's at full load, and idle in the mid-high 30's.

3.8Ghz 1.31875 Vcore, HT ON, C1E ON, SpeedStep ON, Vdrop Enabled, temps ~62-63C at full load (nothing special cooling, TRUE lapped in an Antec 900 Case)

I turned it off. Mostly because i could lower my idle temps and vcore. Secondly because windows seemed to mostly schedule my dual threaded games on a single core and it actually caused minor stuttering because of it.

I would not get all bent out over seeing that. Honestly those temps look like high end air temps. It's high for water.

I'm not bent, it just sounded wrong...my bad. Aigo helped me with some issues awhile back, and even though he does have the CnC set for his P6, I'm not going to hold a grudge.

I've had my h20 sitting on my kitchen table whirling away for a week testing everything...and it's time to start putting it together...

I chose HT off because HT just make the processor hotter and eats more electricity. At 3.6Ghz with HT off and V at 1.38

The system in rock solid.

where in the snow?

ruby those are 64C max load temps on linpack (not prime) during full load @ 4.125ghz. @ 1.48vcore with HT on.

Show me an air sink that can pull that off, because even water setups have a hard time chasing those numbers.

Those temps are great, dunno what shes blabbing about. With 4.125G/1.5V/Linpack, any air heatsink would glow a nice incandescent red color.

To answer the OP, I turn HT off. HT hurts performance in the apps that I use mostly, plus it increases heat and voltage required for stability. If however I was encoding, rendering or folding, I would lower my overclock and turn HT on.

Also keep in mind that Intel Burn test 1.9 only puts a 50% load on an i7 with HT on. You will need to use linX to put a 100% load on all 8 threads.

My UNLAPPED TRUE and UNLAPPED 940 do mid 70's in LINPACK at 1.35V 200BCLK*19 (3.8GHz). 1.5V is getting high - does not sound like a "golden egg" cpu. I've run mine at 4.2GHz and did not see anything glowing.

Chill out guys and keep your pantyhose on.

Ok Ruby, 75C at 3.8/1.35V

So at 4.2/1.5V you will probably see 90 to 95C. Too hot, pantyhose is coming off.

I'm glad I don't have a job that requires me to wear (pantyhose).

Out of curiosity what apps take a hit in HT?
I do mostly encoding so 3.8 with HT >> 4.2 w/o HT.

interesting... but when i comes to ~5% variance, I know 3dvantage for myself will change roughly 3-5% between given runs (sometimes back to back, sometimes restart to restart).
