i810 memory compatibility

Helping a neighbour upgrade his older Compaq with i810 (maybe i810e) chipset. Currently has 2x64MB DIMMs in both slots. We want to add 256MB.

Single-sided 256MB SDRAM sticks are less-expensive than double-sided sticks, but are they compatible with the i810(e)?

Been searchine everywhere.

Nope. You will need low density 16 chip double sided 256MB DIMMs.

Simply said, you need 256MB PC100 SDRAM.

Edit: It's a Celeron 533.

PC133 will work fine, as long as the module is compatible(as in, no high density).
It'll just run at 100 MHz.

Actually that will probably be 66 MHz since it's a celery.

The memory will actually run at 100 MHz but the FSB is still 66 MHz.
I have the same chipset and I have a 128 MB PC133 stick and it works fine. Remember low density. I installed a normal stick and it was NO GO.

i had a problem back when i was working at dell where the micron was sending high density memory parts as a substitute for a low density part (i guess they were out of stock)... i tell dell's in house people what is going on, and they tell me that density doesn't make a sh!t. dumbasses. meanwhile, i'd also contacted the dell-micron go-between, and she got micron to admit that was what was going on. no one else in that dept would have caught that.
