Be warned that this is a 12.5 mm drive so it may not fit in all notebooks. I have a Dell Inspiron 4100 and I don't think it will work in my laptop.

Hmmm...I wasn't even aware they made these with more than 2MB cache. Is there a 60GB model that has 4 or 8?

EDIT: I believe that even the 60GH Enhanced Availability has 2MB cache.

BTW, folks, if performance is what you want, get the 40GB 40GNX HDD. Ain't nothing better in the mobile world...

Supposedly in the next couple of months the 7200rpm are coming out, I'm going to hold off until then when the 5400s go out of style.

I can no longer find this drive listed on the dell web page. Still, it was a great deal if it's a new dirve. I imagine that the new 7200 rpm drives will be a little pricey when they first come out. Dell says my order shipped, so I guess I'll get to see for myself how much I like this drive in a few days.

Do you know if the 20GB 40GNX HDD is the same performance-wise? I looked on IBM website, and they share the data/spec sheet, so I'm guessing that the only difference is the capacity? I need to upgrade from my 12GB hdd, and don't need that much more than just 20GB, and the price is ALOT lower than 40GB's.

**oh...and IBM.com states 8MB buffer? Am I reading this wrong?

The 20GB should be on par with the 40GB...

Where are you getting the info from? 5400 -> 7200 is a huge jump and quite frankly seems a little unreasonable. Most laptops use 4200RPM drives and still run very hot.

If performance is more important than capacity - compugeeks is offering a 5400RPM IBM 32GB IBM Travelstar for $99

I seriously doubt that 7200RPM laptop hard drives are coming out. That would just use way too much power, not to mention all the heat that would make.

Actually it was IBM that was developing the drives. I just went to the IBM site and they are abandoning hard drives?!?! WTF?!?!
