Newegg has this same drive for $103 plus $8 FEDEX shipping. Probably a better deal there unless you live in Cali.

For the people on the more eastern side, I recommend z-buy.com out of New York. The drive there is $112.00 INCLUDING shipping. I've ordered thousands of $$ worth of stuff there and they're good.

nice price but a word of advice for those wanting to buy it: it seems that these drives r kind of unreliable (including the 75gxp family). So before u buy it, check out the comments on the Storagereview.com/forums!

I can say that I have gone thru 2 75gxp 30 gigers...And i have seen people on other boards complain about the unreliability of these drives...IBM does have a good rma process though...

i do not recommend z-buy.com to anyone ever. i bought a floppy from them that did not work, tried to return it and they ignored 3 emails and 2 phone calls. I had to dispute a 13 dollar charge on my credit card. baaaaaaaaaaaaad vendor

i haven't heard of that many people having problems with the 60GXP line - only the 75GXP and in that family pretty much limited to the 45 gig model.

The IBM 75GXP and 60GXP series worked just fine for me. I got tired of those Western Digital 20gigers. It seemed like every time one of our users complained about HD noise, and even HD failing, it was always a WD 20GB drive. I even had one of my own fail. There was once a time when WD ruled the HD industry, now they're just a player. These IBMs have been great.

Hard Drives fail, face it, and people only post comment when something bad happens, IBM sells far more drives than WD and Maxtor which is way you see so many complants about the quality of 60gxp/75gxp, yea they may have issues, but their failure rate may be only 1% more than WD or Maxtor, and I'd think of those three brands, everyone has had at least one fail (of one brand) which forever tranishes that brand in their mind.

I've had a HD fail, and I've never really considered buying one again, no real reason, just i always associate bad things with WD

Alpha is so right...

4 years ago, there was this Maxtor hd, failed once, returned it, got a new one, which failed 2 months after.
Never bought a maxtor again.

However my next 3 IBM hard drives (6, 15, and 20 gigs) are all excellent and still running as we speak.

The majority of us are overclockers, are we not?

Overclockers take above average risks to attain higher speeds, don't we?

The 60GXP is currently the fastest IDE drive on the market, is it not?

So even if there was a 10% chance that the drive would fail, would you still consider your computer the best around and take pride in the fact that you could have had a faster drive but wussed out?

We want speed. We take risks. We want the best and IBM is it. I would be very supprised if the the failure rate is over 2% on the IBM drives.

I doubt IBMs have a higher failure rate than Western Digital or Maxtor. In fact I believe it has a lower fail rate. But I can't prove that with any real data. I am currently using Maxtor drives. But I would trade them for 60GXP drives any day.

Happened to me last night, a 3 month old drive. This is my first HD to crap out, and the first WD i have ever bought. Can you say I'm not buying a WD again? Out of the 15 or so HD's I've bought in my time, this is the only one I've seen crap out. I am still very very pissed. (yes, i know this should be in Brag/Moan, but it kind of relates to other comments i this forum).

Ordered one myself. No probs yet. I've never had probs with NewEgg. I do wish they shipped same day, but the service is always good, and I like their online status.

Hopefully the price continues to drop.. I'll need another one of these in a couple of weeks (RAIDing my machine)
