Of course more drives stay alive than those that fail, but the failure rate is a lot higher than most drives. Let's assume, what, something like 0.5% of most drives experience failures within the first year? Well, with the 75GXP's, it was probably something like 7% (just pulling numbers outta the air; I need this disclaimer because I know someone will play semantics). In any rate, there's no reason to buy a 75GXP at this point and risk it. I wouldn't think IBM would screw up with the 60GXP's or else they'd get a black eye that'd stay with them a while, but don't hold me to that. Maxtors are a sure-safe bet for the most part, but not a lot of people have had any problems with the 60GXP's thus far. Wonder what the situation will be a year from now...
