Or get a brand new white P260 from http://www.itxchange.com/ for $479... I'm not sure in which location they have them available (Canada only?), or how much shipping would be.

Not to crap, just a word of caution...... (I didn't look at the link yet).

Refurb monitors are a subjective and fairly risky item. I would estimate almost a dozen people I personally know have gone this route, only to regret it (most). Usually the image has problems on delievery, or within 2 years the unit has a severe problem.....warranties, if any, on refurb units typically is 90 days or less. Some sites, Dell or IBM I believe, rates their refurb units.

If you get one, just make sure you can return it for a FULL refund. More than likely, you'll have to pay for the return shipping as well and not get the original shipping refunded.....

But if you decide to buy this, GOOD LUCK!!!

Be careful with the IBM monitors at TD these days. They sell both "Factory Recertified" and "Refurbished". They have a different definition for both. Not all of the main descriptions for refurbs state that it is a refurb. Factory recertified is a better deal than their refurbished IMHO. I've purchased two of the IBM recertified monitors and have not had any problems. I would not touch their refurbs.

TigerDirect's Factory Recertified Definition"
These monitors are recertified by IBM. They are not used. These monitors have been returned to IBM for a number of reasons, i.e.: a customer refused shipment, returned the monitor without opening the box, or received the shipment in a damaged box. IBM completely recertifies these monitors?at their factory?and repacks them in brand new packaging. They are recertified to "as-brand-new" condition and pass quality control checks. They carry the full IBM one-year warranty. Why pay more? These monitors are in brand-new condition, with full factory certification?and you pocket the savings!

TigerDirect's Refurbished Definition"
Model number or Image may vary. This Monitor is refurbished. TigerDirect.com has secured this monitor from remanufacturers (typically not the factory or original manufacture). These monitors may have been in the field, returned under warranty, or recovered from a lease. They are clean, and 100% tested. All monitors carry a 90 day warranty from the manufacturer, and a 20 day money back guarantee from TigerDirect.com. Refurbished monitor typically ships in a brown box.

lanyap,

thanks for posting that info in both of the posts concering ibm monitors at tigerdirect.

the p260 I purchased was recertified. however, the salesperson said it carried a 90 day warranty--perhaps 90 from tiger and 1yr from IBM? (nah, considering this is tiger not likely!)

can you post a link to that info at tigerdirect? I had seen it in the past but the last time i did searches for it came up empty.

thanks,
kef7

For anyone that fears purchasing from Tigerdirect, here's a review in their favor. I purchased a monitor for my brother, new, 15" KDS, for his LAN box. I ordered on a Friday. Monitor was delivered on Monday. Exactly as expected, and in perfect condition.

I might be in the minority, or maybe in the majority... but one this is certain: when I need to buy another monitor, I'll be checking out Tigerdirect.

I bought a very similar monitor (the P202) for $199 from a fellow student and I love this monitor. Mine is white but the shell looks the exact same and I'm pretty sure it's the same tube... If I knew that they were selling quality refurbs then I would probably pick this up, but my experience with refurb'd monitors is very poor...

well, appears I'm another unhappy tigerdirect customer. although I ordered a factory recertified they sent me a refurbished model. the box and a sticker on the monitor states it is refurbished and contains used parts. will call tigerdirect tomorrow and complain and update here when I find out more.

called tiger to complain about getting a refurbished when I ordered a recertified. either cs rep was stupid or plays stupid; had to repeat myself several times as to where it states this monitor has a 1yr ibm warranty.

after reading this to him twice there was a long pause and he said call in Monday if you want to return it. wish me luck on Monday. does anyone remember if they ever sold this same monitor refurbished and recertified at the same time? would like to know what the price difference is if they put up a stink; perhaps they could lower the price to what refurbished is and kick in the 1 yr warranty they sell for $60.00

The two recertified IBM 17" monitors I ordered from TD several months ago have a used sticker on the monitor and the boxes they came in but there was nothing about being refurbished. Both monitors looked brand new, no blemishes, etc. I think IBM is very strict about marking any type of equipment that is not brand new as used. So the used stickers did not bother me. However, if yours says refurbished then I would continue to pursue it with TD. Don't let them blow you off by sayings it's really recertified even though it's marked refurbished. Be sure to print off all the TD webpages with the monitor and the definitions of recertified and refurbished so they can't change the website. You may need these printouts to argue your case. Sorry you had problems, GL.

lanyap, good idea about printing out the webpages-- however I believe they already changed one; it appears that your link to the refurbished description isn't working now.

My refurbished definition was pointing to a specific monitor that is apparently out of stock. I found another monitor that is refurbished and updated the link. It looks like they only supply the refurbished definition for individual monitors whereas they list the recertified definition at the bottom of the main IBM monitor page.

called tiger again and this time got what seemed to be a more knowledgeable cs rep. he somewhat agreed that the wording wasn't the best but asked that I check with IBM first to see if monitor was under warranty. called IBM and they said it is under warranty (until Jan. 2003), also verified via their website.

guess i will keep this monitor but still disgusted with tiger over how this product is worded at their website.
