They currently have T40 model: 237319U on sale until 8/12/03
It also comes with a free rolling computer case and an optical mouse.

Brand New with 3 year warranty

I think this is a lot better than the T23 deal since it includes a CDRW/DVD combo which costs ~$200. Also the longer battery life, lighter weight, better graphics, DDR ram, USB 2.0 etc.

A 40GB 5400rpm 16MB cache HD is only $107.

Search for A0048507 in Dell SB S&P

The T40 laptop is one that I can envision myself using for 3 years w/o upgrading or replacement.

Specs are here

From the IBM web site:
The IBM U.S. Shareholder Purchase Program (SPP) is the program that makes a wide range of IBM products available at discounted prices to IBM Shareholders. Eligibility and terms of the ?Program? are described below:
You must be an IBM Shareholder at the time your order is placed. A Shareholder Offer ID is required for all purchases under the Program. Providing a shareholder?s Offer ID to other individuals for use in making purchases through the Program is explicitly prohibited and is considered a violation of the terms and conditions.

Please ensure that you are using the most current Shareholder Offer ID Number which is located on the front of your quarterly mail out.

To verify you have the most current offer ID number (or to receive the latest), please contact Stockholders Relations at 1-888-426-6700.

Try to look in with this: 543269

It's not hard to find a friend who owns a share of IBM stock.

Looks like a great notebook, but it's only a better deal for those who can spare the extra $549 + shipping. Unfortunately, I can't

DerProFi,

You have to look at it this way. The T40 can be a desktop replacement for most people. The T23 can't be, unless you buy a cdrw.

With the T40, you can sell your desktop to make up for the cost.

Perhaps for some, but until it can hold 400GB of data, burn DVDs at 4x and burn CDs at 52x, it won't be much of a desktop replacement for me My needs are much simpler when I'm mobile. Still, it's an awesome deal on one of the best notebooks around!

Damn if I had $1,500 laying around and needed a laptop I'd jump on this in a heart beat.

The T40 is the best laptop in the world, bar none. This version is a little light, but not bad.

I thought so.

While I love my Compaq's 15.0 SXGA display it's a bit hefty at 7.2 pounds.

One day I'd like to own a 12.1 or 13.3 weighing under 5 pounds, maybe an iBook with 12.1

Damn this is a good deal.... And I wish IBM still made the T series in 12.1". I ended up getting an X22 -- 12.1" no optical, but only 3.6 pounds! I can live without the optical. That's what a network connection to my desktop is for... and I could do external USB.

random - Do you have WiFi?

Wow 3.6 pounds, that's like HALF the weight of mine.

Does the small 12.1 screen bother you?

The 237319U is $1682 on IBM's normal site. Where do you see it for $1549?

Tommyboy8,

I think he meant light on features/power.

Now I see the problem. If you use the number above to go to the shareholder purchase site first (which is what I did) -- you get the same pricing if you just go to the Home Page and look at products. Cleared cookies and then the price was as you stated. However, I wonder if that gets you around the shareholder requirement if you go to the home page and just order at the lower price ?
