I know there is an official T42 thread, but I posted there and did not get a reply. Need information ASAP!!

I have been considering a 15" T42 with 1400X1050 SXGA+ Flexview and 64MB 9600 card, and I have questions ONLY about the Flexview display. This is the SXGA+ I am considering, not the UXGA screen.
1.) There have been discussions on another forum about the Flexview being a VERY slow display, with response times listed (from the screen manufacturer) of 60ms and higher, and reports of ghosting doing anything from viewing DVD movies to gaming. Is this truly a very slow display, and will I see ghosting??? Is it truly slower than most manufacturers LCD notebook screens???
If there is ghosing, will it be easily noticable in day-to-day use. I am not a heavy gamer.
2.) Also, is the Flexview anything like the SONY XBrite display??? I do not like the SONY because it is very reflective, in fact, you can see yourself reflected in the screen depending on the lighting.
I would MORE than appreciate any honest answers to these two questions. Several people have told me to order a Thinkpad, and return it if I am not happy with it, but that is the last thing I would like to do.
Thanks,
Andrew

If so, can you comment on the screen "issues"??

Looks like I'll need to join as no one here has responded.
I own the notebook you are considering. Specifically the 2378-DXU. Love the 7200RPM hard drive

I find the display gorgeous. The flexview has great color geometry and the 170 degree IPS view angle. It is not reflective at all like the XBright. I would probabley say for typical business applications it is the best display I've seenand a major contributor to my getting the 15" (the 14.1" SXGA+ is not flexview).

Now I don't have much experience with different LCDs for ghosting comparison, but compared to my CRT ghosting is definitely evident. I find DVDs very viewable and the brightness and viewable angle is a big plus, however I do see minimal ghosting in fast paced scenes. I have not played any action games, so I can't speak to that, but I do suspect it would be a major issue for FPS games. I didn't get the notebook for gaming, my desktop and CRT monitor is better than any notebook for that, but if I were looking at a gaming notebook, I'd spend a lot of time reading the posts and notebookforums.com.

Best of luck and let us know what you decide.

P.S. Thinkpads.com forums are pretty good, but they are not gamers.

The Flexviews are also on the 15" T42 with 1400X1050.
Go to thinkpads.com and click on the new forums.
Do a search for TABOOK and download it.
It is a PDF file that tells you month by month what comes with each IBM model.
Forget what the website, or sales people say.
TABOOK tells you what is in each IBM system configuration, by SKU number (or whatever they call the 7 digit alpha-numeric code for each system).

Sorry, everything I read about the Flexview's indicated that they are just too slow.
