of course they ran out of stock, that ibm deal was emailed out to everyone on their newsletter. That is a valid reason i'd say. This other notebook is great too, i'm actually considering it since its sooo cheap, since i need a notebook next year. If it weren't for the 2mb of vram only i'd buy this thing but i need it to have more ram to run my 19" monitor at 1600x1200, wish it had 8mb and i could. damn

Dont' get a laptop with HPA display, the quality of HPA screen are bad. If you have to get a laptop, try to get one that has an Active Matrix Display. I can't tell you how beautiful a Active Matrix is over a HPA display, you have to see it with your own eyes.

Ahh! HPA is terrible! Stay far far away! This is my advice as those HPA screens are terrible for your eyes and you will hate your laptop. Anything with active matrix is better

HPA= high performance addressing. It's basically a fancy word for passive matrix or dual-scan. They are all the same. you'll see lines and shadows on the screen. Get active matrix, it's worth a couple of hundred more dollars.

i ordered my onvia ibm laptop on friday morning (8:40am pacific). I already have a UPS tracking number for it. How did youall get shafted if you ordered it before I did? this seems wierd...

does a tracking number have anything to do with it actually being shipped?

I got in on the i1340 and it's a very nice machine - checked today and Onvia still says in stock on these.

Once they give you the tracking # for your order, it means your stuff is boxed already and waiting for pick up by UPS guys. From there, you'll be able to know all the infos (where and when it left the warehouse, ETA, present location, etc.) by visiting the UPS website.
That's usually the case. Some retailers give you the track # just to assure you they got your order. After a few hours or a day, you'll receive a back order notice because of high volume demands (they ran out of stock). So, for me the best way is to double check your order by calling CSR just to be sure that your order has really left their warehouse.
