IBM Thinkpad T42 Specs

So far, all I know is it has Dothan, wireless, and a pretty good graphics card. Does anybody have more info on the IBM Thinkpad T42?

Here's an example configuration:

IBM ThinkPad T42 ? 1.7 GHz, Pentium M, 14? XGA, 512MB RAM, 40GB HDD, 1GB Ethernet

Doesn't really tell you much though. I really wish IBM would come out with some wide screens. Read in the news today that by the 4th quarter, they will be releasing models with different colors aside from the black to appeal to women.

Nope.. You will still only get a 14".... T42 represents the same chassis of the T41/T40.

The model number will jump up to "T-50" when IBM changes the T chassis.... Therefore no screen size cahnge yet.

There will only be incremental changes per my statement above...

Processor bumps, memory config bumps, drive bumps, and a rumored Modem chipset change.

It's unlikely IBM will produce anything but Black and generally ingnores the consumer "I want a wide screen" crowd.

You won't see a wide screen this year.

Yeah, I wondered about that too, but it's supposed to come out in mid-May from what I've seen. If that's true, we'll see when it gets here.

It's not true. Sorry.... I'll remain pesimistic about the colors, but I can tell you 100% that there is no 15" screen coming on the T42. "15.1" SXGA+ TFT Screen" is certainly a typo. As I stated in a post above concerning chassis/model naming.... A new 15" T-chassis would be called T-50, and It is Certain that the May T will be a 42......Hence no 15".

I work in the industry......No names given, but I know.

Yup--It WOULD.. but there is no 15" T.... now or in May.

Me either...... 14" is just perfect for the T. I drag my T41p around the globe,,,,larger screen size would suck for me....

Had a T-40 as well, and will have a T42. Not sure if it will be a P model though.

Now, I've a R40 M 1,4 (2722CDG) 15' SVGA+ , really a great screen but a poor quality chassis and I dream about a wider screen with the built quality of the T Serie.
I hope a T42/50 or anyone with a 15' and a 7,2K HD

...The Chinese article lists model names 2373-9YC (14"); 2373-6YC (15"); and 2373-HWC (15"). Model name 2373 belongs to the T series, such as the 2373-GGU for the T41P. The new R51 has an entirely different model name -- 1836-BCU. So all of the 2373s listed belong the T series -- including those with 15" displays. Perhaps the 6YC & HWC will use the R series chassis -- but with magnesium covers instead of R series plastic.

but I can tell you 100% that there is no 15" screen coming on the T42.

Well you are misinformed indeed.

Øyvind, a Norwegian product manager for IBM, has said on a Norwegian forum:

That the T42 model will come in both 14" and 15" versions (15" will have bigger footprint, and larger weight - a typical weight will be 2.43kg).
Also they will have the dothan cpu.
T42p will have the same video card as the T41p, FireGL T2 (~radeon 9600), but it will have a new ultrabay slim dvd-rw drive, instead of the old cd-rw/dvd drive.

Models will be announced the 11th of May, and be available from the 24th of May (I think it was).
