iBook LCD Annoyance

I seem to have two bright spots in the bottom corners of the LCD screen... the right one is brighter than the left.

What could be causing this... is there any need to worry about it getting worse? What should I do?

Thanks

Sounds like some of the mounts behind the LCD panel are pressing in, causing the lighter/brighter spot. Even if the iBook is out of warranty, try calling Apple and ask for "customer relations" to discuss the product. As I understand it, this has been a problem with many notebooks, and most of the companies have an unoffical recall/replacement.

Years ago, Apple replaced the pastics on my old PowerBook after the mouse button broke. It was almost a year past the end of the warranty, but I argued to customer relations that the problem was an obvious design flaw (it was, very flimsy connection on that one model) and the did fix it for me for free... but I had to talk to about 4 people before they gave in since I was out of warranty.

Didn't you only just get that one? Bad luck if that's the case, but you shouldn't have problems with warranty. You'd still be in the 90 day free phone support time too. Am I right?

Well I just bought it in October so it's definately still under warranty. Do you think if I were to send it in I'd get it back before New Years? I really need it for school, and it would very much so suck not to have it. Is this something I can worry about after the term is over, say in April? Or should I get this taken care of before then? Thanks for the replies

It's been several years... but the whole process took less than a week for me. I called on Monday, got a box FedExed to me on Tuesday. I sent it back on Tuesday afternoon. Apple shipped it out on Thursday. I had the fixed laptop in my hands on Friday afternoon. Didn't cost me a thing.

If it's still under warranty, just call the normal help line.

*sigh* I miss the days when you could call Apple (or almost any company) and get telephone tech support for any problem with any piece of software or hardware, no matter how old it was. Many compaines would even ship out new manuals if you asked for them. Handy for those bargain machines I used to get at garage sales.

If the computer is still under warranty, Apple will repair it and it will be back within 3 days normally. I had a logic board replaced and it took 3 days. They even said they had to ship it to California to fix it...so I was surprised to get it back so fast. *in Ohio*

I've read some posts about the bottom 2 screws being too tight which lead to this problem.

If you don't wana ship it.. bring it to any apple store... they might be able to help u there.

these "white spots" are a known issue from what ive read on some mac forums. my powerbook luckily didnt have any of these. you should definitely bring your book to an apple store or call support.

What he's experiencing isn't the white spot issue from what he's said. That was an old issue and has since been completely fixed from what I know. It's probably that the display back is on too tight... take it to an applestore and they can take a look at it...

Thanks for the help guys, I think I'll send it in or go to the apple store nearest by. The screws.... are they the ones on the sides? The torques? If so I could try and loosen them myself, but if it's something inside the display casing I definately will just take it to them and let them take a look.
