Ibook or Powerbook?

I need some opinions on which I should buy. College student, mainly use this computer for browsing, email, AIM, burning music, maybe dvds. I was interested in a powerbook because of the more power, and I get an educational discount as well.
Seeing that the ibooks havent been updated in forever, I was leaning more toward a PB in addition.
Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

If it'll be your only computer and you can afford it, you want a PowerBook (preferably a 15"). I would wait for the WWDC keynote to finish next week; it starts at 10 AM Pacific on the 6th, and should finish by noon (or 3 Eastern). There's a slight chance that Apple will update the PowerBooks then, and you wouldn't want to have an outdated model that quickly.

Easily the Powerbook. The sexyness of aluminum is impossible to put a price tag on.

It's more likely that the iBooks will be updated. There was an update to PB's at the beginning of the year and iBooks are due.

Wait and get a revised ibook (14" widescreens from what I've heard). For your needs the powerbook is overkill. They're very nice, (I had a 1.33 15" till i ebayed it) but unless you're going to be getting into video editing, the price premium is just not worth it. Plus, the Ibooks have much much better battery life, which should help you a lot in college. Whatever you do though, make sure you have 768 meg or more ram in your laptop, because Tiger is a memory hog, even by Windows XP standards.

if you have a Microcenter near by...give them a call and see if they have the 12" 1.33 (Rev.C) powerbooks in stock. When I bought mine a few weeks ago, they had 6 at the Fairfax, VA store. $1,000 after $100 rebate! Pretty much the BEST deal you're going to find for a brand new Powerbook anywhere. And I got Tiger for $10 through the Apple upgrade program.

...it is cheaper than the comparable iBook (but if they update the iBooks, then I assume that you can probably get the current ones for really cheap).

I have got my wife a 14" iBook ($1,299 - $100 rebate w/ free hipping & no tax) upgraded to 512MB w/ $20 SODIMM I got from Newegg, and she is very happy with it. For what she does, it's perfectly fine. And she does exactly what you are planning on doing with yours.

Personally, I am not too keen on spending too much money on a laptop, since you cannot upgrade it much. She wanted a bigger screen; otherwise, I would have bought her 12" ($999 - $100 rebate from Amazon).

If you were planning on playing games, you might want to have more power. However, for that purpose, you might just want to build a cheap desktop (or from Dell) with a halfway decent videocard with the $$$ you save from buying iBook over PowerBook.
