Hi Everyone,

We've been contacted by InnovationCooling.com who make IC Diamond 7 Carat thermal compound. They've asked us if we are interested in participating in a promotion whereby they would send samples of their thermal compound to some of our F@H participants in order to gather some real world data on their product.

InnovationCooling is interested in CPU temp before and after using IC Diamond 7 Carat so that they can chart the results of our forum members. I'm sure they would also be interested in knowing whether or not their thermal compound offered enough additional head room to push clock speed / performance higher.

I hope that you guys will agree that this is a pretty cool opportunity. InnovationCooling has done this at a couple other sites before with good results, and I'm very interested to see what you guys think of their product. Of late, I've just used whatever thermal compound was left stuck to the bottom of my retail Intel HSF as I'm doing zero overclocking ... but I used to use Arctic Silver exclusively when I needed to push a system. If we can get a good number of data points it will be really interesting to see if our numbers match up with what others have seen and if that makes any real difference in performance / potential.

We have been offered 100 samples to distribute to folders. If more than 100 people are interested, we can set some kind of criteria (like how long have you been folding, performance levels, system specs or whatever), but we'll cross that bridge when/if we come to it. In the mean time, everyone who is interested in participating, please post here. After we assess interest we'll get in touch with InnovationCooling about getting the samples to participants.

You guys rock, and if I haven't stuck my head in the Distributed Computing much it's only because you run such a tight ship and get along so well with eachother here. Please let me know if this (and other opportunities such as this) are of interest to you guys. I'd also love to hear from you about other types of events or activities we can put together.

Thanks!

:: EDIT :: Instructions from ICD7

... Post here on the forum registering your interest. then send me an email at innovationcooling@att.net referencing your post or alias so I can validate it.

send me your mailing address in a format that be cut and pasted for mail processing and I will start mailing out samples.

::EDIT:: Just wanted to let you guys know that this is now open to all TeAm AnandTech members!

Hmmmm, I wish this offer had been open when we did our Holiday Season Race in December. This sounds great!

If I qualify, I would be in with a couple of AMD 64 x2 5000 Black Edition (which now are running at 3.2 GHz ...but other projects).
I'll be happy to switch them to F@H, measure the temps for a week once or twice a day and then switch compounds and push them more ...for a month.

I propose and host a race:
Each cruncher commits two computers. Crunches for 7 days using the stuff on the CPUs now. Measures temps. Then switch compound, crunch for two or three weeks OC-ing the CPU more (it needs a week to set, doesn't it? ) and then we compare results (points, PPD, temps) before and after.

Hey, you two Marks and Gravity, are you in? You know your temps, you push your comps, it gets us free fun! We could have different categories: Intel vs AMD, non-OC'd vs already OC'd, we could create sub-teams. (no, the two Marks and Gravity are not on the same team!!, but we could discuss that ... )

Ideas are appreciated. From my point of view we could start coming Monday or any day after that. Any takers?

Edit: layout, spelling ...

I have two C2Q PCs I'd be happy to get some information for you. I'd be willing to get data for stock HSF AS5 vs. the new product and ultima90 hsf AS5 vs. the new product. (I fold 24/7). If they want comparisons vs. any other products, they'd need to supply them.

I'm definitely interested, at the very least to see if what I've heard about the performance integrating diamond into thermal paste.

Looks like I'll be setting up at least one of my systems for Folding. All of my systems are OCed.

Rosetta and Folding are both on target so count me in the test.

We (well, I do at the very least) appreciate your kind comments. In reference to other types of events or activities, is the idea of t-shirts for Team Anandtech still out of the question or not possible? Just a thought.

Cool!, & yes I'd be interested to test it on my C2Q @3GHz
That's if they are willing to ship to the UK?

[edit]I've just thought ,my Ultima 90 is badly made with a base that isn't flat & thus isn't making proper contact with the CPU, maybe that wouldn't make it a very good test base?
I plan to lap it flat when I have time.

(I can only run 1 rig 24/7)

Sorry couldn't help myself

Count me in too!

I like Peters' idea of a race with the testing, (the Holiday Race WAS lots of fun), but racing should not be a requirement of getting in on testing this stuff.

Well anyway, I have a P4 that I recently reapplied some Ceramique by Artic Silver to that would make a good test subject.

And my old Xeon dually is in need of some new compound - it must be 3+ years old! So that would make a good test also.

I'd be interested as well.

I've not run F@H in awhile, but I've been thinking about running it again, so this would give me some incentive to actually do it.

I'll give it a go, but they need to understand that I will be objective and not 'sell out' for getting something for nothing...I've been looking at their product(s) for a while and am very intrigued, count me in .

BTW,

What a 'cool' oppertunity, for Derick .

Sure, I have a couple of C2Q's I can test on FAH for a period of time.

Another race sound good to me!

Speaking only for myself () I would be more than happy to test the latest ultra-zoot top sekrit CPU's on various DC projects.

I would guess, if you test it and get good results, that Innovation Cooling will ask you if they can quote the above

Maybe the following partial quote from a "get his foot in the door" PM from "ICD7" (Joe Citarella from InnovationCooling.com) will help put concerns aside:

IC input is generally limited to application issues, whatever the result the user gets is what he gets we are only interested in the charted final result.

In the interest of full disclosure of my part in this: ICD7 PMed me about his idea (probably because I do the Folding@Home stats thread), being a good little nobody, I sent it to a mod to let better minds decide.

Well, it seems we have a quite a few members to join.
Of course, the race would be only for those who want to race. Others can test the compound too.
The idea is to make it more fun ... and racing is fun!

We still have not heard from Gravity, MarkFW900 and MadMurph - the top producers who also raced in the Holiday Season Race.
It would be great fun if one or all three joined ...

Innovation cooling Introduction

For those that have an interest they can check the links on our Homepage We have links posted to other Promotional giveaways that will give you an idea how it works. User application issues, trouble shooting performance and will give you an idea what to expect.

This kind of promotional beta testing has been extremely important in helping IC to evolve a troubleshooting guide as well as clarifying our marketing message to potential users.

We will post results similar to what you see on our site at the end of the exercise while we do a more intensive statistical study for our own use. The result you see will be a compilation of all users results with a simple average point. Some do better, some do worse. Understand that this is a simple averaging of the whole, so we do not claim we are better than "X" product, Only that with this particular group of users we will see some average point against their compounds of choice.

Raw data will be made available for viewing and corrections. You are essentially 100 product reviewers here, ambient temps, before and after temps, and any comments or criticisms are welcomed. We are more interested refining our product and message.

I am particularly excited about this promotion with the Anandtech group here, you people as a group probably count as one of the more sophisticated type of experienced users and the data should be of a high quality.

Thanks to all for your time and efforts
