i bought 3 bottles of it.

bottle 1, i totally messed up, this stuff isnt easy to apply.

bottle 2, i kinda got the nack of it, but its still difficult to apply.

bottle 3, the one im on, well, its nice, but its too much effort and work. I dont see much of a difference against shin etsu, so i just decided to stick with shin etsu.

I read that it's your basic "Jolly Green Giant frozen pea" size.
I tried it & didn't notice any improvement personally.
When I switched to the Xigmatek, I picked up a syringe of TX-2...so much easier to apply.

didn't see any instructions on how to apply accept, put a pea sized amount and press the heatsink on it. is that all?
when applying AS5, i use a credit card-like card to spread the paste evenly, should i do that with the ICD7?

No...put a pea-sized amount (as discussed above), let it set 5-10 min., set you HSF down on top of it & twist slightly while mounting to spread.

the proper way i remember reading it was.

1. you need to set it in hot water for a couple min. so the thing gets a bit lose.
2. then you apply, and spread thin on the surface. If you allow the tim to cool down, it starts to gunk up real bad, so you need to be fast.
3. you then let it sit out for about 5-10 min.
4. you pop on sink.

but trust me, its a lot easier typed then done.

I tried it, the ICD7 gave me about a 1c drop over Tuniq TX2. I warmed the ICD7 up with some hot water before applying. I used a very small amount, like half a rice grain dollop in the center.

so we're supposed to let it cool on the CPU prior to attaching the heatsink onto it?

I would think if one let it cool, one would be back to square one w/it being too thick to apply.
Once I warmed mine up, I applied it & let it sit on the cpu for 5-10 min.

in a sense your doing the oposite.

The compound IC7 has a solute which needs to evap. This solute evaps at room temp, so thats why they ask you to let it sit out for 5-10min.

However i reread their site and it says the rice in the middle technique will work. But im not 100% sure on this.

Louis, if you have a bottle, play around with it on both styles. The pea sized blob in the center of your cooling point, then let it sit out and then squish.

Then try the other method of spread it while its warm. YMMV is a 100% gaurentee on this product.

I recomend you try it in that order. If you get better temps on the spread, dont pull that off! You'll understand what i mean about the how difficult the spread is when youve done it.

This is why i like shinetsu. Non conductive, non capative, just blob and pop on and your ready to go.

Pea sized amount on center - mount sink-Maybe twist back and forth a few times to spread and tighten it down.

Solvent was removed from the formulation - no need to let stand and dry

ahhh your a vendor?

Welcome to Anandtech. Thanks for this info, i'll make sure everyone knows about it.

Is there anyway to know if you got an old bottle or a new one where you removed the solvent? I have 1 bottle left from last year, so im guessing i need to use the old fashion method?
